Polysomnographic Tech I-Children's of Mississippi-Full Time and Part Time

To develop competency in and perform polysomnographic testing and associated interventions. To perform all types of sleep studies under the guidance of a senior tech. To develop skills in scoring studies during recording. To clean and assemble equipment used for studies.

High School Diploma/GED and 6 months of direct patient care experience or current enrollment or completion in an accredited educational program in Polysomnography.Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: NA

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of polysomnographic exams on sleeping patient to detect common sleep disorders.
• Follows procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data; documents procedures and data recorded from exams in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic result.
• Verifies medical order and protocol; completes and verifies documentation; explains testing procedures and orients the patient to the sleep center.
• Prepares and calibrates equipment used for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments as necessary.
• Follows specified procedures to verify integrity of collected data and instructs patients on completing questionnaires.
• Performs equipment care and maintenance; complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding patient safety and infection control issues.
• Performs a variety of sleep studies under the supervision and guidance of a senior tech and scores studies as they record.
• Continues to learn and gain experience in order to work toward obtaining certification and/or registry.

Physical and Environmental Demands Requires occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, occasional sitting, occasional standing, occasional twisting, and occasional walking.
