Operator I – Tree Trimming Job ID: 1121 Position Type: Skilled Trades/ Operator – Tree Trimming Location: City of Seguin Date Posted: 5/14/2026 Responsibilities Maintain City-owned trees for public safety by pruning, trimming, removing trees, and caring for City trees. Inspect trees to ensure public views of street traffic signals, signs or intersections remain unobstructed. Trim trees around energized power lines. Perform brush chipping, root pruning, and stump grinding. Use climbing saddle, rope, and harness to access and move safely in trees. Operate and maintain tree‑trimming equipment: trucks, aerial lift truck, chain saws, pole pruner, root pruner, stump grinder, and brush chipper. Perform traffic control to ensure safety of cars, pedestrians, and tree crew in traffic areas. Perform roadside clean‑up of trash and weeds. Plant, water, fertilize and care for City trees. Respond to emergency calls regarding fallen trees or limbs. Assist maintenance workers with chipping tree limbs and brush. Inspect trees for potential faults, insects, and diseases. Haul brush and wood from the jobsite to the truck. Use various hand and power tools. Act as a groundsman on the job site. Other Important Duties Perform such other duties as may be assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of practices, methods, and materials used in planting, pruning, and removing trees; tools, materials, and equipment needed to maintain City trees; traffic control including placement of cones and warning signs. Demonstrated ability to perform CPR; lift and maneuver up to 112 lbs.; perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods in unfavorable weather conditions. Understand and follow verbal and written instructions; maintain records and files; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city employees, the general public, and vendors. May handle toxic and/or hazardous materials or work in areas where such materials may be stored. Acceptable Experience and Training High school graduation or equivalent. Three years of experience in landscape or tree maintenance, or a closely related field, is preferred. Alternatively, any combination of experience and training providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certificates and Licenses Required State of Texas Class B (commercial) driver’s license. Must maintain Cardiopulmonary Certification.
