Job Description Summary
The MUSC Children’s Health Inpatient Pediatric Diabetic Clinical Educator reports to the Manager of Pediatric Acute Care. Under general supervision and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, this role coordinates and provides age specific and developmentally appropriate care for pediatric diabetes patients throughout their hospital stay. This role serves as the primary educator for nursing and patients and is the leader for diabetic care coordination for inpatient. This role will support organizational efforts as needed that include access, quality improvement, literature review, patient advocacy, and growth of the inpatient program. Additionally, will establish educational programs required to meet identified patient, staff, and organizational goals. Assume responsibility for maintaining adherence to Joint Commission/American Diabetes Association Advanced Diabetes Certification, and evidenced based standards of practice.Entity

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing and licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state, with three (3) years of RN nursing work experience required. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist by the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES) required within one year. Or a bachelor’s degree in a nutrition focused field, and a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration from The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, with five years of clinical experience and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist by the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists (ADCES) required. Master's degree preferred.

Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception.
