Position Overview: The Muslim Life Advisor supports Muslim students and advancesMuslim life at Butler University by fostering belonging, providingreligious and spiritual guidance, and connecting students withcampus and community resources. The Advisor develops experientialopportunities that deepen the campus community’s understanding ofIslamic beliefs, practices, cultures, and communities; supportsoutreach to prospective Muslim students and families; andcontributes expertise and support to The Compass Center’sinterfaith programs. The Advisor brings knowledge, experience, andvision grounded in the diversity of Islamic traditions andcommunities and, under the direction of the Director, carries adefined portfolio aligned with Compass Center priorities andbroader Culture & Inclusion and DEISA initiatives. Position Description Key Responsibilities: Muslim Student Support: Provide spiritual care, mentorship, andguidance grounded in Islamic traditions through regular drop-inhours and individual engagement with Butler’s diverse Muslimstudent community. Student Leadership and Community: Advise and support Muslimstudent leaders in planning prayer gatherings, study circles,religious observances, cultural events, and othercommunity-building activities. Campus Advocacy: Collaborate with campus partners to identifyand address the religious, cultural, and institutional needs ofMuslim students. Campus Education: Develop experiential programs that deepenunderstanding of Islamic beliefs, practices, cultures, andcommunities across campus. Prospective Student Outreach: Collaborate with The CompassCenter, Admissions, and other University partners on year-roundoutreach to prospective and incoming Muslim students and families,including local, regional, and international recruitmentefforts. Compass Center and Interfaith Engagement: Serve as a campusresource on Islam, religious diversity, and interfaith engagement,and contribute to Compass Center initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned in support of The Compass Center. Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. At least two years of experience supporting college students or emerging adults in higher education, religious, or community-based settings. Demonstrated knowledge of Islamic beliefs, practices, cultures, and communities, including the diversity within Islam. Ability to provide culturally responsive mentorship, spiritual care, and guidance to students. Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-buildingskills. Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, center student needs, and work effectively across diverse perspectives. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in divinity, Islamic studies, religiousstudies, higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field. Experience working in higher education, campus ministry, chaplaincy, or student affairs. Experience with interfaith engagement, religious diversity, or diversity and inclusion initiatives. Training or experience in Islamic spiritual care, chaplaincy,or religious leadership. Ordination or formal religious endorsement is not required. Experience advising, mentoring, or coaching studentleaders. Established relationships with local or regional Muslimcommunities.
