The Licensed Counselor serves as an integral member of Eisenhower Center's interdisciplinary clinical team, providing trauma-informed, evidence-based counseling services to adults with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Serious Mental Illness (SMI), Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and co-occurring behavioral health conditions. The ideal candidate is a compassionate, clinically sophisticated professional who embraces innovation, values collaborative care, and demonstrates a commitment to measurable outcomes, resilience-focused treatment, and individualized recovery planning.
Role and Responsibilities: Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Clinical Assessment and Treatment
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial, behavioral health, trauma, risk, and functional assessments to identify client strengths, challenges, goals, and treatment needs.
- Develop individualized, person-centered treatment plans that support rehabilitation, emotional wellness, behavioral stability, and community reintegration.
- Provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy utilizing evidence-based interventions, including:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Solution-Focused Therapy
- Mindfulness-Based Interventions
- Trauma-Informed Care Approaches
- Utilize strength-based and recovery-oriented practices that promote self-determination, skill development, and quality of life.
- Evaluate treatment effectiveness through ongoing assessment, outcome measurement, and modification of interventions as clinically indicated.
Trauma-Informed Clinical Practice
- Foster a safe, empowering, and therapeutic environment grounded in trauma-informed principles.
- Recognize the impact of trauma, neurological injury, and adverse life experiences on emotional, behavioral, and cognitive functioning.
- Support clients in developing resilience, emotional regulation, coping skills, and healthy interpersonal relationships.
- Incorporate culturally responsive and individualized interventions that respect each client's background, values, and personal goals.
Crisis Intervention and Behavioral Support
- Provide crisis assessment, intervention, stabilization, and risk management services as needed.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to address complex behavioral health concerns and develop effective intervention strategies.
- Assist in the development and implementation of positive behavior support plans and therapeutic interventions.
- Support staff in understanding behavioral presentations and trauma-responsive approaches to care.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with physicians, neuropsychologists, psychologists, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, case managers, direct care staff, and program leadership to coordinate treatment services.
- Participate actively in treatment team meetings, case consultations, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary case reviews.
- Promote integrated care approaches that address the physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and social aspects of recovery.
- Serve as a clinical resource and consultant regarding mental health treatment, behavioral interventions, and trauma-informed care practices.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, treatment reviews, and discharge summaries.
- Ensure compliance with all organizational policies and applicable requirements established by:
- Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS)
- Community Mental Health (CMH) agencies
- Medicare and Medicaid regulations
- CARF standards
- Professional licensing boards and ethical codes
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems effectively and maintain documentation consistent with medical necessity and reimbursement standards.
Clinical Excellence and Professional Development
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and outcome-focused clinical programming.
- Remain current on emerging best practices in behavioral health treatment, neurorehabilitation, trauma recovery, and evidence-based interventions.
- Participate in clinical supervision, continuing education, and professional development opportunities.
- Contribute to the ongoing advancement of Eisenhower Center's clinical excellence and innovative treatment philosophy.
Advocacy and Patient Engagement
- Advocate for the dignity, rights, and self-determination of all clients.
- Engage families, guardians, and support systems as clinically appropriate.
- Provide psychoeducation regarding mental health, recovery, coping skills, behavioral health conditions, and wellness strategies.
- Promote meaningful participation in treatment and support everyone's journey toward recovery, independence, and community integration.

Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted Michigan licensure in one of the following:
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Limited Licensed Counselor (LLC)
- Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP)
- Bachelor's degree required in Business Administration, Healthcare, or related field. Master's degree is preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience providing psychotherapy and behavioral health services to adults with complex clinical needs.
- Experience working with one or more of the following populations:
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
- Serious Mental Illness (SMI)
- Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Co-occurring behavioral health conditions
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed, person-centered, and recovery-oriented care.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, treatment planning, and crisis intervention skills.
- Experience facilitating individual and group psychotherapy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary treatment environment.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation systems.
- Valid Michigan driver's license with reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in neurorehabilitation, post-acute rehabilitation, residential treatment, or behavioral health settings.
- Specialized training in evidence-based treatment modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, CPT, EMDR, or Motivational Interviewing.
- Experience developing behavior supports plans and positive behavioral interventions.
- Knowledge of CARF accreditation standards and quality improvement practices.
- Experience working within interdisciplinary rehabilitation teams.
- Knowledge of brain injury, neurobehavioral rehabilitation, and cognitive-behavioral recovery models.
- Certification or advanced training in trauma-focused treatment approaches.
Education & Experience:
- Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a closely related behavioral health field from an accredited college or university.
- Completion of all academic coursework, supervised clinical training, and other requirements necessary for state licensure.
- Current, active, and unrestricted counseling license (LPC, LMHC, LCPC, or equivalent) in the State of Michigan.
- License must be maintained in good standing throughout employment and meet all continuing education requirements for renewal.
- Specialized coursework or training in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, counseling techniques, ethics, and crisis intervention preferred.

Salary: $70,000 - $80,000
