Job Description Location: Chicago, Illinois Business Unit: Rush Medical Center Hospital: Rush University Medical Center Department: REACH Work Type: Part Time (Total FTE between 0.5 and 0.89) Shift: Shift 1 Work Schedule: 8 Hr (8:00:00 AM – 4:30:00 PM) Pay Range: $18 per hour Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. Summary Rush Education and Career Hub (REACH) is seeking dedicated, motivated, and highly organized individuals to serve as Teaching Assistants for our educational programs. These positions provide exciting opportunities to support the training and development of students while gaining hands‑on experience in an educational setting with a focus on STEM and healthcare. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, teach, and contribute to the advancement of education at a premier academic medical center. REACH provides several academic enrichment programs designed to introduce Chicagoland students, between the ages of 2-24 years old, to a variety of STEM/healthcare curriculum careers. More intensive programs will provide participants with opportunities to earn industry-recognized credentials supported by Instructor Assistants. An Instructor Assistant will support community education associates, community instructors, and program managers in guiding students to strengthen their communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills. An Instructor Assistant should be committed to the development of meaningful relationships with students through giving constructive feedback, encouragement, and support to help them learn and achieve program goals and values. Required Job Qualifications High school diploma with current enrollment in a bachelor’s, master’s, or professional degree program at an accredited institution Strong interest in education and teaching or in relevant field areas for the program of interest Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and mentor students Strong organizational and time management skills Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment Ability to balance academic commitments alongside teaching assistant responsibilities Successful completion of background check Preferred Job Qualifications Prior experience working with students or in relevant field areas Academic major in science, public health, social sciences, healthcare, or related field Knowledge of relevant subject matter or industry practices Physical Demands Ability to lift and carry training materials, supplies, and equipment (up to 25 lbs) Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods (up to 4‑6 hours during class sessions) Competencies Subject matter knowledge (STEM/healthcare) Community building and facilitation Instructional support and classroom management Disclaimer The above is intended to describe the general content of and requirements for the performance of this job. Responsibilities Instructional Support Assist the lead instructor during lesson implementation Mentor students during practical training sessions and coursework Support instructors in conducting classes and practical exercises related to program competencies Help prepare and organize training materials, handouts, and resources for courses Foster a positive and collaborative learning environment that encourages growth and professionalism Student Development Provide feedback and guidance to students, helping them develop necessary skills to succeed in certification exams and real-world practice Develop meaningful relationships with students through constructive feedback and support Monitor and track student progress toward program goals Monitor student attendance Facilitate community-building among students Administrative Support Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance Support the evaluation process by assisting with administering quizzes, and performance evaluations Participate in periodic meetings with faculty and instructors to discuss student progress, challenges, and educational strategies Complete required training and orientation sessions Support the planning of lessons by organizing and setting up materials.
