Part-time Recreation Specialist II - Alternative Recreation

Overview Part-time Recreation Specialist II - Alternative Recreation. Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor II or the Recreation Coordinator, this position is responsible for working as part of a team to lead and supervise instructional classes, social events, excursions, sports, and other leisure activities for participants in recreation programs in Simi Valley or Oak Park. Programs include alternative recreation for individuals with developmental disabilities and/or other disabilities, the preschool program for children 3 to 4 years old, and related activities. The position may work up to 15-20 hours per week, which may include some weekends and/or weeknights. Responsibilities The District's Recreation Specialists assist with leading and supervising program areas, including: Alternative Recreation: Lead youth and adult participants with physical and/or mental disabilities in social and recreational activities; oversee participant safety; develop and implement activities with comprehensive program outlines; communicate with staff, participants, and parents/guardians; monitor safety and emergency procedures; prepare recap reports. Preschool: Develop, organize and schedule activities to promote physical, mental and social development; adapt teaching methods and materials to meet varying needs; supervise and plan assignments for assistants and volunteers; maintain reports per District policies. Note: The areas assigned can change based on community needs, individual strengths, and staffing requirements within the District. Qualifications & Employment Standards High school graduation or GED; 18 years of age. One or more years of relevant experience with planning and leading social/recreational activities for populations such as individuals with special needs and preschool-aged children. Ability to work indoors and outdoors; maintain equipment and facilities; clear and effective communication; ability to build positive relationships with participants, parents/guardians, aides, and staff; strong instructional and time-management skills; service-oriented attitude. CPR and First Aid certifications required; Infant/Child CPR certification required for work in the preschool program. Proficient in fundamental computer software and general office skills. Valid California Driver's License with good driving record; adherence to ADA compliance regulations. Physical Activity Requirements Position requires standing and walking approximately 70% or more; occasional pushing/pulling of materials (including wheelchairs); frequent lifting/carrying of materials up to 40 pounds; bending, kneeling/squatting, reaching overhead; occasional to frequent climbing of stairs; ability to read printed materials and communicate clearly; work outdoors in varied weather conditions. #J-18808-Ljbffr Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District
