Service Line Medical Director (Chippewa Falls)

The Service Line Medical Director (SLMD) will be the primary leader, actively overseeing and managing the day-to-day operational activities and functionalities of the specific service line for which they are assigned and accountable. The SLMD holds significant responsibility for the comprehensive planning and strategic direction of all critical facets of Roger's medical policies and programs specifically tailored to the service line they support. The core function of the SLMD is to ensure that consistently high-quality health standards are upheld and guaranteed for all patients, irrespective of the healthcare provider delivering the care. Furthermore, the SLMD is tasked with maintaining a high level of information dissemination, ensuring all clinical providers remain fully informed and updated. The SLMD will collaborate closely with the campus medical directors, the associate chief medical officer, the chief medical officer, and other senior leaders within the organization. This collaborative effort will be directed towards the development, continuous monitoring, and strategic enhancement of the healthcare system's short-term initiatives and long-term strategic objectives. In addition to their administrative and leadership roles, in their capacity as a Clinical Physician, they are directly responsible for delivering and maintaining high-quality psychiatric services. This includes comprehensive evaluations, accurate diagnoses, and effective treatment strategies for a wide array of mental health conditions. Treatment approaches may encompass, but are not limited to, psychotherapy, expert medication management protocols, and a spectrum of other evidence-based therapeutic methodologies.
Job Duties & Responsibilities : Leadership- Ensure the quality and sustainability of medical and clinical services
- Focus on team-based approach to care, advancing interprofessional practices, resilience among providers, and innovation across the organization
- Provide oversight and guidance to the clinical teams of the service line and work with all levels of Medical Directors and Operational Leadership to establish standards of care
- Supervise, advise, counsel and discipline medical providers in conjunction with the appropriate administrative teams
- Lead by example, continuing to meet all expected productivity schedules, participating in rotations for call and providing patient care as needed
- Provide situational feedback to the providers and serve as an escalation point of contact
- Identify and facilitate recruitment needs for service line in conjunction with administrative team
- Promote and communicate goals, as well as the mission of the hospital
- Assist in the delivery of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of staff as requested
- Responsible for ensuring that all duties, responsibilities and operations are performed with the utmost regard for the safety and health of all personnel involved, including patients and themselves by following the required protective protocols (Federal, State, Rogers, etc.) policies and guidelines
- Maintain and improve quality of care
- Monitor patient experience and patient flow and adjust as needed
- Develop, maintain, update, and implement departmental policies, procedures, and protocols
- Analyze performance data and initiate plans to enhance clinical and operational efficiencies
- Establish quality assurance programs
- Partner with providers, medical directors, infection control, nursing and others (as needed) on infection control and safety protocol measures
- Conduct regular audits
- Lead/implement improvement action plans
- Demonstrated understanding of Joint Commission and other regulatory agency compliance regulations
- Monitor regulatory issues and ensure compliance
- Educate and direct clinical teams in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with Risk and Compliance, Legal, Human Resources, and Practice Administration to assure Medical Staff awareness and compliance with Rogers, Joint Commission and all additional regulatory requirements
- Prepare and participate in accreditation and/or certification surveys
- Lead and participate in in-services, seminars and other meetings to increase involvement and awareness of regulations
- Participate in the development of budgets, including staffing, support plans and equipment needs projection with on-going monitoring and evaluation
- Ensure providers are meeting ADC targets in accordance with the hospital budgeting process
- Manage FTE expenditures with compliance to the FTE budget
- Manage the on-call schedule to support a consistent and quality approach to managing patient care needs
- Maintain an understanding of any variances in physician productivity and its impact on the budget
- Participate in committees, performance improvement team meetings, and team projects
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and ability to resolve conflict.
- Ability to use initiative and judgement to organize, plan activities, formulate policies, delegate responsibility and make decisions affecting diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- Must be able to relate to people in a manner to win their confidence and establish rapport.
- Must be flexible to adjust to changing conditions, programs and various details of the position.
- Verbal and hearing ability required to interact with patients and employees. Numerical ability required to maintain records and operate a computer.
- Must be able to read and communicate through written, verbal and auditory skills and abilities.
- Position requires walking, sitting and standing. Work is performed inside the building and is physically light. Lifting is moderate; must be capable of lifting a minimum of 20 pounds. Reaching, handling, grasping and manual dexterity are necessary to operate various office equipment.
- Physically/Mentally able to perform job duties as verified by a physical exam by a licensed physician, pre-employment Physical
- Valid state licensure as MD / DO.
- Board-eligible psychiatrist. Board certification preferred.
- Leadership and/ or supervisory experience in a behavioral health organization is preferred.
- Experience with process improvement implementation preferred.
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or American Red Cross Professional Rescue is required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire. Annual recertification is required.
- Formal self-defense training is required within sixty (60) days of the date of hire/transfer. Annual recertification is required.
