Job Summary

We are seeking a System Engineer – Drive-by-Wire (DBW) Systems to support the development of next-generation autonomous hauling and machine-control systems .

The role will focus on system architecture, requirements engineering, interface definition, system integration, validation, diagnostics, and functional safety . The engineer will work closely with software, hardware, controls, autonomy, and validation teams to deliver safe, reliable, and scalable DBW solutions for advanced vehicle platforms.

Key Responsibilities

System Architecture & Requirements

  • Define system architecture, subsystem interfaces, and Interface Control Documents (ICDs) .
  • Develop and maintain system requirements and requirements traceability.
  • Lead requirements decomposition and allocation across software, controls, electrical, and vehicle subsystems.
  • Participate in technical and design reviews.
  • Manage system-level risks and technical dependencies.

Functional Safety & System Analysis

  • Perform system-level analysis including:
    • FMEA
    • STPA
    • Hazard Analysis
    • Safety Assessments
  • Support functional safety activities and compliance with ISO 26262 and related engineering processes.
  • Define fail-safe strategies, watchdog mechanisms, diagnostics, and fault-management approaches.

DBW & Vehicle Integration

  • Integrate steering, braking, propulsion, chassis, hoist, auxiliary, and autonomy interface functions .
  • Support ECU and subsystem integration for drive-by-wire and autonomous vehicle platforms.
  • Analyze system behavior and performance across vehicle-level operating conditions.
  • Support calibration, tuning, deployment, and on-machine validation at proving grounds and customer locations.

Communication & Diagnostics

  • Define and analyze vehicle communication architectures using CAN, CAN FD, SAE J1939, and Automotive Ethernet .
  • Support diagnostic implementation and troubleshooting.
  • Work with protocols and technologies such as UDS, OBD-II, XCP/CCP, SOME/IP, and DoIP .
  • Analyze network communication, faults, and system-level diagnostic issues.

Verification & Validation

  • Coordinate SIL, HIL, fault-injection, integration, and vehicle-level validation activities.
  • Develop and maintain verification and validation artifacts.
  • Investigate system failures and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Drive corrective actions through resolution and verification.
  • Support system acceptance and milestone assessments.

Collaboration & Documentation

  • Collaborate with software, hardware, controls, autonomy, validation, and vehicle engineering teams.
  • Communicate technical requirements and system-level issues to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Participate in customer and technical discussions.
  • Maintain requirements, verification artifacts, risk registers, and compliance documentation.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of systems engineering, requirements management, system integration, diagnostics, and validation .
  • Experience or academic/project exposure to functional safety, FMEA, STPA, V&V, or system troubleshooting .
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering , or a related technical discipline.
