Head Nurse (40 Hour) (Office/On-Site)

Position Highlights Facility: Capitol Region Mental Health Center (CRMHC) Unit: Inpatient Unit Location: Hartford, CT Schedule: Full‑time, 40 hours per week, 12:15 am – 8:15 am (3rd shift) Days Off: Week 1 – Friday & Tuesday; Week 2 – Saturday & Sunday Shift differential and weekend differential available Responsibilities Provide administrative and clinical oversight of professional nurses, paraprofessionals, and other staff. Lead the planning of care and ensure the implementation of the nursing process. Assist in identifying educational gaps and contribute to the development of annual staff competencies. Provide oversight to ensure unit workflow and priorities are identified and completed. Ensure unit policies, practice standards, and controlled‑drug protocols are followed. Maintain a safe environment and competent care for clients. Plan unit workflow, determine priorities, and schedule, assign, oversee, and review staff work. Make recommendations for personnel actions such as selection, discipline, and performance. Conduct or assist in performance evaluations. Lead professional and paraprofessional nursing staff in patient/individual care. Provide staff training, development, and assistance. Instruct staff on policies and procedures. Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to promote continuity of care. Respond to emergencies. Prepare reports or correspondence as needed. Serve as a Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (if applicable). Minimum Qualifications Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse. A Bachelor’s degree in nursing may substitute for one (1) year of general experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with behavioral health clients in an inpatient setting. Experience in providing direct care and staff supervision in a behavioral health setting. Experience in providing direction and guidance to subordinates. License and Medical Requirements Must possess and retain a license or temporary permit as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut or hold a Multistate or Compact Registered Nurse license. Must pass a comprehensive medical examination, including drug screening, upon a conditional offer of employment. Fluency in a foreign language or proficiency in American Sign Language may be required for certain positions. Travel may be required.
