Summary Primary responsibilities include screening, evaluating, diagnosing, and providing appropriate services to students with communication disorders (articulation, voice, language, fluency) that affect educational performance. The role also involves consulting with teachers and parents, and participating in Individualized Education Program (IEP) team meetings. Physical demands are as required by the duties. Special requirements include attending school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement. Develop and implement appropriate goals and objectives for each individual student. Select and utilize therapeutic materials effectively with individuals and small groups. Good communication and human‑relations skills for consultative work with classroom teachers, parents, and collaborative teams. Good writing and organizational skills for concise clinical reports, developing IEPs and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), and maintaining complete longitudinal records. Education, Training, and Experience Master’s or equivalent in speech‑language pathology. Coursework and demonstrated knowledge in working with communication disorders, including significant expertise in evaluation and therapeutic techniques. Experience working cooperatively with professionals in related disciplines. Demonstrated skill in working with parents (parent counseling, parent training, etc.). Excellent oral and written communication skills, and human‑relations skills. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience that provide the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills. Professional Requirements Speech pathologists hired after October 1, 2007, must hold the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) license or be eligible for a provisional license. Speech pathologists hired before October 1, 2007, may hold Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) certification or the Maryland State DHMH license.
