Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pediatric critical care and be prepared to provide high-quality care to critically ill children. This position requires night shifts (3x12-hour) and the ability to work weekends on an every other weekend basis.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients in a critical care environment.
• Administer medications and monitor patients' vitals and responses to treatments.
• Perform advanced procedures such as respiratory treatments and intubations.
• Oversee the use of specialized medical equipment, including ventilators and infusion pumps.
• Document patient care activities accurately and in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create and implement patient care plans.
• Float to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and other units as needed based on skill set.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in pediatric critical care.
• Previous charge nursing experience is preferred.
• First-time travelers are welcome if they meet the experience requirements.
• Certifications required: BLS and PALS.
• Certifications preferred: NRP and CRRT.

Skills and Competencies

• Ability to perform breathing treatments, chest tube setups, and care for patients on CPAP/BiPap and high-frequency ventilators.
• Proficient in procedure sedation, rapid sequence intubation (RSI), and various resuscitation drugs.
• Experience with tracheostomy care, vents, blood product administration, and central line access.
• Capable of handling complex medical devices such as PCA pumps, epidural pumps, and wound vacs.
• Ability to obtain 12 lead EKGs and manage drainage systems.

Schedule and Orientation

This position will require a commitment to working night shifts and every other weekend. Orientation will be provided to ensure familiarity with unit protocols and procedures.
