Description of Work Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences This position is located at the Raleigh East Driver’s License Office. Selected Driver License Offices operate extended business hours to better serve North Carolina customers. Employees assigned to these offices work a flexible schedule that supports operational and customer service needs. Candidates hired through this posting will typically work Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Work schedules may be adjusted based on staffing levels, customer demand, office operations, and other business needs. Candidates selected for this position will report to DMV Headquarters in Rocky Mount, NC Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. the first week of employment and as needed to complete their training in the weeks following. Employees assigned to an Extended Hours Driver License Office are eligible to receive shift premium pay equal to 10% of their regular hourly rate for qualifying hours worked. This position is part of the Driver License Associates Program, the hiring rate for this position is $47,255. All Driver License Examiner I (DLE I) recommended candidates will be offered a hiring salary of $47,255. After successful completion of 12 months in the position, the employee will be moved to $49,618 if they have completed all the required training for a DLE, have at least a “meets expectations” on their performance review and does not have any active disciplinary actions. After successful completion of 18 months in the position, have at least a “meets expectations” on their performance review and does not have any active disciplinary actions, they will graduate from the Driver License Associates Program and become a Driver License Examiner for North Carolina with a new annual salary of $51,980. If selected for this position, the candidate will be required to report for orientation and their first week of employment to DMV Headquarters in Rocky Mount, NC. Driver License with no suspensions or revocations within the past 10 years in any state for any motor vehicle‑related offense and no more than 5 active points. The candidate that is selected for the position will be given a conditional offer of employment that would allow him or her to begin work subject to the results of the background check. Classification: Program Coordinator I Salary Grade: NC08 Salary Range: $39,244 - $68,679 Qualifications The program area for this position includes one or more of the following: customer service experience with diverse groups, providing detailed information to the public, working in environments that require interviewing individuals to gather information, and/or having a working knowledge of DMV policies and procedures. Management prefers applicants with the following: Experience explaining policy, procedure and/or laws to educate customers or the public. Customer service experience (friendly, enthusiastic attitude who enjoys serving customers) with a diverse clientele. Knowledge of basic computer software that includes database programs, Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly adapt to internal systems. Work experience typing using a computer keyboard.
