Requirements:

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:

Note: This is not a remote position.

The R&D Laboratory Technician is responsible for the testing, documentation and reporting of experiments performed on laboratory test rigs and prototype boilers and combustion systems. In addition, the position requires a high level of initiative when it comes to trouble shooting and problem solving. Lab technicians will need to work as an integral part of a team with the ultimate goal of designing, testing, and releasing new products to market.

The R&D Lab technician also performs cross departmental testing to support quality, service and manufacturing.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Perform laboratory build-up, experimentation, and documentation of results and procedures.
• Build test rigs, wire units, and install instrumentation.
• Perform tests with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Document test results and communicate findings clearly to responsible parties.
• Demonstrate knowledge of lab equipment and products.
• Troubleshoot a wide variety of issues (e.g., combustion, electrical, and controls).
• Act as an excellent teammate in the lab by collaborating with other parties who use the lab.
• Participate in lab maintenance tasks, including equipment updates, system preventive maintenance (PM), and 5S activities.

• QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Certifications and Required Experience)
• Required: Associates degree in technical area or 5 years in the heating or similar industry
• Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft products to organize and report test results
• Basic understanding of electrical and controls systems
• Demonstrates critical thinking and problem solving to provide insight into system issues before problems develop.
• Diligence to complete challenging tasks involving final assembly build-up of a lab test rigs
• Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and test equipment
• Ability to work independently and safely. This is very important in a boiler development lab.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills are a must.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Standing– The body is supported by legs and feet for extended periods of time.
• Sitting – The body is supported by buttocks and back and employee needs to remain seated for extended periods of time.
• Medium Work –Walking and standing may be required more than 50% of the day.
