Lab Manager

Position Summary

Responsible for managing chemistry laboratory operations, ensuring timely and accurate analysis of raw materials and finished products. Leads laboratory staff and partners with Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality Control, and suppliers to develop analytical methods, improve processes, support product development, and identify cost-reduction opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily chemistry laboratory operations, workflow, staffing, and priorities.
• Develop, validate, and improve analytical methods for raw materials and finished products.
• Ensure calibration, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Maintain certified and secondary reference material libraries.
• Implement Management of Change (MOC) and Manufacturing Process Experiments (MPE).
• Supervise, train, coach, and develop laboratory staff while ensuring timely completion of assignments.
• Enforce laboratory policies, procedures, quality requirements, and safety standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers on product development, continuous improvement, process optimization, and cost reduction.
• Support analytical investigations, quality improvements, and laboratory problem-solving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Physical Science, Engineering, or related field; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
• Previous supervisory or laboratory management experience required.
• Experience in specialty metals preferred.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of analytical chemistry, quality systems, and spectrochemical methods for metals.
• Experience with analytical method development and laboratory instrumentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
