Respiratory Therapist

Respiratory Therapists are needed for a 13-week duration with a 12-hour night shift, working 36 hours per week. Minimum of 2 years of experience, including one travel contract, is required. Must hold a state respiratory therapist license and certifications such as RRT, BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRPE (if going to NICU). Critical care experience is mandatory, and therapists should be comfortable with intubating patients. Therapists will be the first line in intubating patients and will manage high workloads. Group interviews will be conducted with internal RN staff, and candidates' profiles and internal notes will be reviewed for approval. Therapists will perform an average of 15 minutes for each treatment, completing 550 minutes per shift and seeing an average of 13-15 patients per shift. Charge RT responsibilities will be assigned, and therapists may work M-Th or a weekend shift from Fri-Sun, with holidays rotated with permanent staff. Shifts start between 6:45 AM and PM, with specific clock-in times. The first week involves hospital orientation and charting, with further training to increase treatment minutes. Duties will include all respiratory therapy responsibilities, such as nebs, airway management, vents, and ABG collection. Common patient disease processes include COPD, CHF, pneumonia, respiratory failure, ARDS, and cancers. Assignments will be determined by unit needs, and therapists may manage up to 4 airways in adult ICU. Experience is required for both adults and pediatrics, and critical care candidates must demonstrate competency in adult ICU and vent management. Additional training will be provided for specific procedures, and therapists must feel confident in making suggestions for vent management and interpreting ABGs.
