The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community hospital with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed facility that is part of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region serves approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.

POSITION SUMMARY:

In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, patients, and their families. You will communicate the patient’s clinical status as needed, responding swiftly and accurately to any changes in condition or treatment response. Your knowledge of growth and development principles will enable you to provide age-appropriate care to the diverse patient population. You will also promote the nursing profession and professional practice through supportive interactions with colleagues. This position reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

COMPETENCIES:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job-Specific Competencies

1. Conducts comprehensive assessments and re-assessments tailored to the patient’s condition and care requirements, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.

2. Collaborates with the surgical team to create, implement, and evaluate a personalized care plan for each surgical patient based on assessment data.

3. Adheres to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their appropriate use according to the patient's age and clinical condition, while following Surgical Services policies for medication safety.

4. Provides all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and fosters positive outcomes, adhering to policies regarding Patient Identification, Surgical & Invasive Procedures Site Identification, and Time-Out protocols.

5. Accurately documents the nursing process and responses to care in a timely fashion using the designated tools.

6. Exhibits flexibility, organization, and the ability to perform under pressure, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.

7. Demonstrates independent practice aligned with evidence-based standards, actively pursuing personal and professional development, and serving as a role model and mentor.

8. Applies knowledge of growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to identify specific needs.

9. Provides a thorough and relevant report on the patient’s condition to ensure safe transitions of care.

1. Prepares the surgical room promptly with all necessary instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for each procedure.

1. Maintains aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure, identifying and communicating any breaches to the surgical team and assisting with corrective measures.

1. Effectively communicates with the surgeon regarding the accounting of all sponges, needles, and instruments, reporting any discrepancies immediately to the surgeon and Team Leader, and documenting all counts appropriately.

1. Accurately records, handles, labels, and processes specimens.

1. Demonstrates proficiency in the scrub role.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
• Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required upon hire.

EXPERIENCE:

• Prior experience in surgical or labor and delivery settings, particularly assisting with C-sections, is essential.
