Peter Johnson Builders Estimator - Residential Construction This position is located in Charlottesville, VA. Qualified candidates must be willing / able to commute to the Charlottesville area. Peter Johnson Builders is a company focused on high end, architecturally-designed custom homes and remodels, and we are looking for a talented and motivated Estimator to oversee and control the pre construction process.The ideal candidate is a growing professional and team player that can perform in an administrative capacity and support the pre construction department as required. This is a support position where the candidate will have the opportunity to take part in every aspect of the pre construction process. The candidate will take a construction project from concept to contract. Responsibilities: Manage pre-construction process for effective customer relationships, internal efficiencies and company profitability. Coordinate work across multiple departments, subcontractors and engineering consultants. Communicate with Designers/Customers for clarification of project scope of work. Read and understand design documents including blueprints, specifications, and project manuals. Contribute to cost estimates and bid solicitations by performing quantity takeoffs. Manage opportunities and proposals in coordination with Business Development. Contribute to cost estimates utilizing trade partner budgets and quotes, as well as unit pricing. Conduct project Kick-off, department review, and management review meetings. Maintain trade partner relationships and develop relationships with new trade partners (subcontractors and vendors). Interface professionally with trade partners, architects, engineers, city and county officials, clients, and consultants. Maintain high standards of workmanship that adhere to design documents. Procure Project Permits from local municipalities Qualifications: Working knowledge of Bluebeam, Excel Google Docs Bachelor's Degree in construction, engineering, architecture, accounting, business preferred 5 years of experience as an estimator or Project manager in the residential sector. High level of competence and aptitude is required in administration and communication. Additional industry specific skills are a plus. Congenial attitude, willing to take delegation, interested in learning and contributing, reliable and professional. Self-motivated, works well in a team environment, and can also be content working in relative solitude on detailed and technical tasks.
