POSITION SUMMARY The Grounds Maintenance Specialist assists with the safety, security, and general operation of YMCA Maintenance. This position requires hands on maintenance duties and the ability to work with project teams, trouble shoot mechanical problems, and work independently to effect repairs. Requirements include a good eye for cost effective solutions, ability to bid projects, weigh and assess costs and time requirements, superior interpersonal skills to assemble, direct, supervise and implement project teams to complete projects in a timely manner. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Complete basic preventative maintenance on equipment and general repairs and inspections; works with equipment warranties and vendor repair programs
- Work one 2nd shift per week, and one weekend on an occasional basis to allow access to areas not afforded during the open hours.
- Ensures policies and projects are adhered to at all times
- Assists with Horse care
- Supports and maintains professional rapport with members, vendors, and staff
- Performs minor and routine painting, plumbing, construction, and repair, as well as other related maintenance activities
- Hangs and mounts signage as needed
- Upholds all safety standards, MSDS documentation, and models
- Perform general grounds maintenance duties
- Assist with boat and dock prep and maintenance
- Assist with prepping sports fields and for outside events
- Operate grounds maintenance equipment

- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within the first 60 days
- First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days
- AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days
- Blood Borne Pathogen training
- State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT)
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, safety rules, and memos.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to members, visitors, and other staff of the Association.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
