About the Role

We have an opportunity for a Public Health Nurse to join our team in a permanent part-time role (0.8 FTE), based in Wairoa, Te Matau a M?ui (Hawke's Bay) within the Te Ikaroa Central Region, NPHS.

In this role, you will deliver a broad range of public health services, including immunisation programmes, communicable disease management, and school-based health services for tamariki and rangatahi. You will work with a high level of competence and autonomy, providing nursing care across education and community settings to meet diverse health needs. Collaboration is central to this position. You will partner with tamariki, rangatahi and their wh?nau, engage with school communities, early learning centres and Te K?hanga Reo, and work alongside the multi-disciplinary team to ensure care is safe, effective, and aligned with professional and organisational standards.

About the Team/Service/Location

The public health nursing team is part of the National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora and works towards Pae Ora (healthy futures for all) by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

The Public Health Nursing Team is a small team of 2 nurses and a Kaiawhina based at Wairoa Hospital Health, which is a rural health centre. The team delivers a range of both population health and primary health care services, including immunisation programmes. The team have a health promotion and disease prevention focus, with particular emphasis on the needs of children and adolescents in the Early Learning Services and school settings.

Wairoa is set amidst picturesque farmland with the sea close by. Just 50km away lies Lake Waikaremoana, offering stunning walking tracks and excellent fishing, while nearby Mahia Beach is renowned for surfing, diving, and fishing.

About You

You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels and model an agile approach; you learn quickly, adapt fast. You can utilise advanced nursing knowledge and skills through reflective practice, critical thinking and professional judgement to provide competent care and advice while working to top of scope. Your knowledge and experience in child & youth health and development, is equipped with the clinical knowledge and skills relevant to tamariki & rangatahi's health and wellbeing.

• Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate
• Hold a minimum of a competent portfolio in an approved PDRP or equivalent with a commitment to continue through the programme
• Full New Zealand driver's licence
• Ability to work within a team and autonomously in a rural setting
• An ongoing commitment to professional development
• A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for underserved wh?nau and communities
• Be prepared to work towards, or already be, a whole-of-life authorised vaccinator
• Demonstrated competence in the application of M?ori health models to Nursing practice
• Proven experience and competence using Patient Management Systems
• An eye for detail and commitment for continuous quality improvement
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
