Sr. Electronics Technician

Job TitleAnalyzes complex malfunctions, installs, repairs, services, programs and tests intercom communications, public address, and media and audio/visual systems in schools, offices, and other facilities. Performs specialized skilled electronics duties pertaining to intercom communication systems. Coordinates and/or supports contractors and other technicians.ResponsibilitiesEXAMPLES OF DUTIES:Installs, repairs, programs, and maintains intercom systems throughout schools and offices.Installs, repairs, and maintains public address systems, media and audio/visual equipment, clock systems to include data hardware and wiring.Assists with project management for medium and large-scale projects related to the repair, replacement, and maintenance of school-based electronics systems.Meets and communicates with school administrators, staff and others regarding maintenance and repair of systems while ensuring delivery of service is professional, efficient, and supports the school systems mission.Coordinates and conducts end-user training on various types of audio/visual equipment and systems.Records and maintains accurate records of work performed, time and materials used. Prepares lists to ensure efficient use of parts and supplies to be requisitioned for assigned jobs. Maintains accurate records of inventory of parts and supplies.Provides setup and support of portable public address systems for various events throughout schools and offices.Coordinates with contractors, distributors and other maintenance department team members for repairs and service of equipment.Reviews blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, performance specifications and operating manuals to ensure an understanding of the design and operating requirements of equipment.Responds to emergency incidents such as those resulting from power outages, water damage, and vandalism. Works with other departments to make repairs and return service as quickly as possible.Assists with central offices audio/visual equipment as needed.Communicates appropriately and frequently with faculty, school administrators, supervisor/manager(s) and other employees.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training and Experience:Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent.Four years' experience in electronic repair, testing, & modification.Licenses and Certificates:Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent is required.Possession of a Baltimore County Electrician's License – Restricted (Low Voltage) or an equivalent preferred.Required licensure must be maintained throughout employment within this classification.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of low-voltage installation and maintenance. Knowledge of the characteristics of electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, and transformers. Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).Skill in troubleshooting electronic systems for issues, from microprocessors systems to end-user hardware. Skill in the electronic repair, testing, and/or modification. Skill in the use of electronics equipment and materials. Skill in the use of complicated schematics and the set up and operation of a wide variety of precision test equipment.Ability to communicate and perform work effectively and professionally in schools and offices, with staff and students present.PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:The work of this class entails heavy physical labor including frequent walking, standing, kneeling, reaching, bending, digging, lifting, and carrying objects of moderate to heavy weight, ascending/descending ladders, scaffolds, stairs and the use of tools and equipment.Works in confined spaces in proximity to loud machinery, frequently requires accessing and positioning oneself to reach limited access spaces including but not limited to crawl spaces, roofs, trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels.Recognizes exposure to live circuits and/or operating machinery in adverse weather conditions and travel to sites throughout Baltimore County.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Persons appointed to this classification are designated as Essential Personnel and are required to work when schools and/or offices are closed during adverse weather conditions or any other emergency.In addition to working the assigned work schedule, persons appointed to this class work scheduled overtime and must be available for emergency overtime when the need arises by responding to overtime calls before and after standard scheduled hours of work.Persons appointed to this class may be requested to work an alternative schedule or shift temporarily as designated by supervisor.Persons appointed to this class are designated as essential personnel and as such may be required to work during emergency events.License to drive in the State of Maryland and the ability to drive a pickup truck or van is required.License(s) required for this position are subject to verification and must be maintained in good and active standing during the duration of employment without lapse. Employees unable to attain the required licensure, a lapse or void in valid/active licensure may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.Attendance and participation in training and related activities to attain low voltage licensure and/or low voltage work certifications.Some positions in this class must be physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations and must remain physically qualified to operate such vehicles throughout their employment.
