Job Description Primary Duties Operations and Compliance Manage Chemical, Biohazard, Sharps, and Universal Waste programs and coordinate with campus departments to ensure the programs are appropriately followed. Develops, implements, and maintains campus-wide environmental, health, and safety programs, policies, and procedures to ensure regulatory and institutional compliance. Coordinate with Directors of University Projects and Planning, Procurement, and Facilities Supervisors to address abatement concerns either during projects or work orders that may require outside contractors. Conducts routine safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments of laboratories, academic buildings, residence halls, and campus facilities. Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and environmental protection standards. Investigates accidents, injuries, near-misses, and environmental incidents; determines root causes and recommends corrective actions. Maintains and evaluates safety systems and equipment to ensure proper function, compliance, and readiness (e.g., eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, alarms, ventilation systems). Maintains accurate records, documentation, and reporting related to compliance, inspections, training, and incident investigations. Emergency Preparedness Develop and update Emergency Procedures, Continuity of Operations Plans, Building Emergency Plans, Evacuation Maps, and other documents for emergency preparedness in collaboration with the Director of Campus Safety. Work with Director of Campus Safety and Human Resources to address safety concerns and training both with Facilities Management and campus wide. Conduct training and drills to prepare campus departments for emergency situations. Conduct regular inspections of campus safety systems such as AED’s, First Aid Kits, and Fire Extinguishers and replace/replenish as needed Communication & Strategy Establish and maintain communication channels with the campus and local community to assess needs and opportunities for EH&S standard operating procedures and training. Provide annual recommendations on controlled maintenance needs of state buildings to address safety, emergency preparedness/response, and accessibility concerns. Serve on campus committees such as the Campus Safety Committee, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), to work with campus departments to create a safer campus. Ancillary Duties Assist Office of Campus Safety and Emergency Management with other necessary duties that arise, to include the Parking Manager and Safety Compliance and Clery Manager. Minimum Qualifications Bachelors Degree Excellent written and communication skills. Knowledge of local, state and federal safety regulations. Ability to conduct and identify through risk assessment any environmental health or safety issues and offer solutions to mitigate liability and improve safety. Candidates should demonstrate experience in incident investigation, hazardous materials management, safety training, and compliance reporting. Experience working with regulatory agencies and maintaining safety documentation and records is also required. Preferred Qualifications ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800 Candidates should possess strong knowledge of environmental health and safety principles, regulatory compliance standards, and risk management practices, including OSHA regulations, hazardous materials management, and emergency preparedness requirements applicable to higher education environments Preferred qualifications include experience conducting safety audits and risk assessments, managing laboratory and chemical safety programs, and leading incident investigations and root cause analyses. Familiarity with emergency preparedness planning, training development and delivery, and compliance monitoring of safety systems and equipment Additional Job Description Employment-Based Immigration Sponsorship is not available for this position.
