Industrial Electrician / Millwright

Position Summary

The Industrial Electrician / Millwright is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment throughout the manufacturing facility. This position ensures the safe and reliable operation of production equipment by performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing equipment failures, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate possesses strong electrical troubleshooting skills combined with mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical systems, machinery, and equipment.
• Diagnose and repair electrical components, including motors, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, sensors, relays, transformers, and power distribution systems.
• Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, cranes, and other production equipment.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and mechanical drawings.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions.
• Install and align motors, pumps, gearboxes, shafts, and other rotating equipment.
• Perform precision mechanical tasks including alignment, bearing replacement, and equipment installation.
• Utilize proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and follow all electrical safety standards.
• Document maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment history using the company's maintenance management system.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
• Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; technical school or industrial maintenance degree preferred.
• Journeyman Electrician license or equivalent industrial electrical experience preferred.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience.
• Millwright or industrial mechanical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in steel manufacturing, pipe manufacturing, oil and gas, or other heavy industrial operations preferred.
• Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
• Working knowledge of VFDs, servo systems, instrumentation, and industrial controls.
• Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical power transmission systems.
• Welding and fabrication experience is considered an asset.

• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Thorough understanding of industrial electrical systems, motor controls, and automation.
• Ability to install, maintain, and repair industrial machinery safely and efficiently.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience using precision measuring and alignment tools.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
• Demonstrated reliability, accountability, and excellent attendance.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, work at heights, and work in confined spaces.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with assistance.
• Ability to work around heavy industrial equipment, cranes, conveyors, and large machinery.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures, noise levels, and industrial environments while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Preferred Certifications

• Journeyman Electrician License
• Millwright Certification
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
• NFPA 70E Electrical Safety Training
• PLC Programming or Troubleshooting Certification
• Forklift, Scissor Lift, or Aerial Lift Certification
• Welding certifications are a plus.
