Part-Time Food Service Worker

Mechanicsburg Area School District is seeking a Food Service Worker at the Middle School for the 2026/2027 school year. This is a part-time, during the school year position. Hours are 9:15 AM to 1:45 PM Monday through Friday. This position is 22.50 hours per week.

Job Summary: To serve students and staff meals in a courteous manner and to assist in the cleaning of the food service area.

Qualifications: High school graduate or equivalent. Some experience in food service preferred. Any individual who is to be considered for employment must provide school district officials with a valid Criminal History Record Clearance form, a valid Child Abuse History Clearance form, FBI Clearance, Act 168 form(s), and an I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) form.

Essential Functions

1. Operate Point of Sale system when assigned. Enter individual sales accurately. Deposit funds to individual meal accounts.

2. Collect meal money from students during meal periods. Prepare daily bank deposit (Elementary Only).

3. Work in dish room operating commercial dishwasher as assigned. Operate and clean dishwasher checking detergent levels and water temperature daily.

4. Perform all cooking tasks. Operate all kitchen equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

5. Prepare food, following recipes, menu and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations while maintaining the highest standard of sanitation, safety, quality and appearance. Food preparation involves lifting cases of food out of the refrigerator and freezer and transferring to kitchen for further use.

6. Assist Kitchen Manager in preparing the serving line with food items, utensils, and any additional preparation necessary for serving meals.

7. Serve food in a quick and pleasant manner, assuring that the supply of food offered is replenished regularly and the correct serving size is maintained.

8. Assist in cleaning the kitchen area, including washing equipment, food preparation areas, serving areas, pans, trays, utensils and the disposal of unused food. Sweep and mops kitchen floor as assigned.

9. Assist Kitchen Manager in receiving deliveries and storing food. Help organize food in refrigerator, freezer, and storage room.

10. Perform other job-related duties as directed by the Kitchen Supervisor or Food Service Director.

Qualifications: High school graduate. Experience in food service and the ability to handle money and make change is preferred.

Physical Requirements: Able to maintain equilibrium on slippery floors, stoop, twist and crouch, along with extending hand and arm in a repetitive manner on a regular and recurring basis. Must stand, walk at moderate pace, push and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds and lift same vertically up to 30 inches on a regular and recurring basis. Use fingers and hands to pick, seize and hold, along with using fingertips. Able to verbally communicate with a hearing loss of no more than 40-decibels. Constant repetitive motion of the extremities and joint areas required. Vision clarity requirements include far, near and mid-range (less than 20 inches, more than 20 feet), along with depth perception, visual quality field of vision, and ability to identify colors. Work is primarily performed in an internal environment with continuous levels of noise, and with exposure to hazards of moving mechanical parts.
