Vacancy Announcement Crisis Intervention Response Team (CIRT) Police Officer Salary Range: $63,500 – $67,000 (Negotiable) $10,000 sign‑on incentive* 24 hours of Annual leave and 24 hours of Sick leave given upon hire.* *The sign‑on bonus and leave incentives are exclusively available to external candidates who are hired for this position. Current City Employees are not eligible for the sign‑on bonus or leave incentives. Position Summary This is a full‑time law enforcement position. The Crisis Intervention Response Team (CIRT) is a collaborative effort between the City of Fredericksburg Police Department (FPD) and the Rappahannock Area Community Services Board (RACSB). It is comprised of police officers and Emergency Services (ES) clinicians who will respond as a team. The goal is to de‑escalate situations involving persons in crisis as well as connecting them to resources that may help address current needs. In addition, follow up and home visits involving high 911 utilizers will be conducted. The CIRT will follow up with individuals, family members, and/or caregivers after a crisis to offer support that might assist a person in connecting to services. Required Qualifications Current Virginia DCJS Law Enforcement Certification Minimum Qualifications Must complete Lawfit course 21 years of age; United States Citizen; Possess a valid driver’s license; High School Diploma or GED; One year of work experience involving public contact; No more than two moving violations within previous 24 months; No record of convictions within previous 60 months for DUI, eluding, leaving the scene of an accident or vehicular manslaughter; No record of 2nd or subsequent DUI; No current or previous revocations of suspension of license within previous 60 months due to a moving violation; Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty or no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in the Commonwealth of Virginia; Not have been convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to a Class 1 or 2 misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or any offense that would be any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including but not limited to petit larceny under 18.2‑96, or any offense involving moral turpitude that would be a misdemeanor if committed in the Commonwealth of Virginia; Not have been convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to any misdemeanor sex offense in the Commonwealth of Virginia, another state, or the United States, including but not limited to sexual battery under 18.2‑67.4 or consensual sexual intercourse with a minor 15 or older under clause (ii) of 18.2‑371; Not have been convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to domestic assault under 18.2‑57.2, or any offense that would be domestic assault under the laws of another state or the United States; Undergo a background investigation including fingerprint‑based criminal history records inquiries to both the CCRE and FBI; Undergo a physical examination, subsequent to a conditional offer of employment; Pass initial screening physical agility/ability test (LawFit); Not have produced a positive result on a pre‑employment drug screening.
