Physician (Inpatient Psychiatry)

Summary The West Palm Beach VA Healthcare System's Mental Health Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Psychiatrist. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards and to the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center. Qualifications United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine (or an equivalent degree) resulting from a course of education in allopathic or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include: (1) Those approved by the ACGME or AOA for the year the residency (or fellowship) was completed. (2) One year of post‑medical school training approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of independent practice. (3) Non‑US residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States, with U.S. fellowships creditable toward the requirement. Residents currently enrolled in an ACGME/AOA‑accredited residency program who otherwise meet the basic requirements may be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs) on an intermittent basis. PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (not a training license) and are not considered independent practitioners. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination as required by VA Handbook 5019. The examination is administered by VA Occupational Health. Physical requirements include moderate lifting up to 44 lbs, carrying objects up to 15 lbs, frequent reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, hands, and legs, use of cranes and motor vehicles, walking and standing up to 8 hours, bending and climbing, and the ability to hear a whisper. The incumbent must be physically, emotionally, and mentally stable to perform the essential functions without hazard. Eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program (up to $200,000 over 1–5 years, determined by VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review; applicants must submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment; former EDRP participants are ineligible). Duties Diagnose, treat, and manage psychiatric disorders within a multidisciplinary team framework. Conduct inpatient psychiatric evaluations, consultations, and group therapy or treatment in an inpatient setting. Provide treatment across the full spectrum of DSM‑5 diagnoses. Utilize face‑to‑face interventions and telemental health modalities. Provide cross‑coverage to other clinical sites within the West Palm Beach VA Health Care System via telemental health as needed. Identify Veterans’ mental and medical health needs and design diagnostic and therapeutic plans to address those needs. Serve as the medical subject‑matter expert within the assigned team. Coordinate activities of other health‑service personnel, resolve problems affecting Veteran care, and provide appropriate education for Veterans and/or family members regarding care, condition, and management. Deliver care in accordance with VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guidelines, as measured by the Peer Review Program and various quality metrics. Provide on‑call and on‑duty as assigned during weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights. Work schedule: Monday‑Friday 8:00 am–4:30 pm with occasional on‑call duties. #J-18808-Ljbffr
