The role involves managing and growing the overall portfolio within established underwriting disciplines and guidelines, as well as marketing and servicing existing and potential clients. The individual will support the regional/global head in setting strategic goals and budgets, and will lead and develop the technical underwriting team.Job Duties and Responsibilities:Underwriting & Portfolio ManagementExecute business plans for development, management and expansion of assigned portfolioPerform extensive account analysis including submission review, pricing analysis, and setting terms and conditionsPrioritize and evaluate submissions to identify accounts with greatest profit opportunityAuthorize quotes, binders, and invoices in accordance with company guidelinesEnsure timely and correct issuance of bound policiesCraft wordings and endorsements for legal authorizationMonitor portfolio development against original projections on quarterly basisBusiness Development & Relationship ManagementAttend client/broker meetings, industry conferences, and networking eventsNegotiate with brokers and clients for new and renewal businessExpand existing portfolio by developing relationships with existing and prospective clientsMaintain established broker/market relationshipsTeam Leadership & ManagementSupervise and develop underwriting team members including delegation of duties and special projectsProvide direction to Underwriters and Underwriting AssistantsConduct performance and salary reviewsCoordinate underwriting processes and provide leadership to team membersStrategic & Financial PlanningSupport regional/departmental VP in setting strategic goals and budgetsWork with senior management on strategic and financial planningMonitor developments and cash-flow of bound contractsReview PML analysis on portfolio quarterlyCross-Functional CollaborationLiaise with actuarial support for premium benchmarking and pricing modelsCoordinate with Claims Department on claim activity and market concernsWork with Legal, Accounting, IT and other internal departments as neededStay current with major market and industry developmentsQualifications:4-year college degree (graduate-level preferred)Professional insurance qualification (ACII, CPCU or similar)Minimum 7+ years underwriting experience (12+ years preferred for senior specializations)At least 2 years supervisory/management experienceDemonstrable experience underwriting complex international projectsSuccessful track record in developing and maintaining accountsAbility to work under tight deadlines and manage conflicting prioritiesExcellent negotiation skills and commercial acumenHighly computer literate with advanced proficiency in underwriting systemsAbility and willingness to work outside normal office hours as requiredFluent in English (additional languages beneficial)The salary range for this role is between:Our generous benefits package includes: Health, Dental and Disability Insurance, a company match 401k plan, and Group Term Life Insurance.
