Job Summary The Medication Assistant (MA) serves as a caregiver who provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse. The MA delivers age‑appropriate care related to the physical and psychological needs of the resident as per the plan of care. Duties include: Assisting with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psycho‑social support. Assisting the resident in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment; providing range of motion and passive exercises. Completing tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience; assisting residents with meals and snacks. Administering prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and within scope of practice per state regulations. Documenting outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and diet. Communicating changing condition, medication follow‑up, and care related concerns to the charge nurse. Collecting non‑invasive body fluid specimens and gathering vital signs. Providing housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with keeping living areas clean and operational. Providing assistance and documentation with wellness and recreational programs and encouraging resident participation. Participating in departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed. Qualifications High school graduate or GED (preferred but not required). Minimum age 18 (preferred). Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care (preferred). Completion of yearly department‑specific competency testing and maintenance of continuing education credits (minimum 12 hours annually). Maintain all department‑specific required certifications. Valid driver’s license and auto insurance (when applicable). Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the state board of nursing and successful completion of a state‑approved Certified Medication Aide/Assistant course. Medication Assistant I certification required for Assisted Living or Basic Care facility; Medication Assistant II certification required for skilled nursing facility.
