Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room (ER)

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional responsible for coordinating patient care delivery by the healthcare team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses patients and identifies nursing diagnoses based on their responses to health problems. The RN develops and implements individualized plans of care and evaluates patients' responses. The RN promotes safe passage for patients by using knowledge of patient needs to assist them in transitioning through healthcare encounters without preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to healthcare personnel based on each patient's condition and the competencies of the employee. The role is utilized in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24/7 staffing requirements.

Essential Functions:

• Using clinical reasoning, the RN conducts accurate clinical assessments according to practice standards.
• The RN identifies and prioritizes patient and family needs and modifies plans to meet clinical outcomes.
• The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, supporting evidence-based practice through research utilization and experiential learning.
• The RN creates a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and families, developing therapeutic relationships while managing both emotional and physical pain.
• The RN recognizes and incorporates unique differences such as culture, spiritual beliefs, and values into individualized plans of care.
• The RN preserves and protects patient confidentiality and autonomy while identifying and addressing ethical concerns.
• The RN facilitates learning for patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team, integrating education throughout the continuum of care.
• The RN collaborates with colleagues to develop and implement integrated plans of care while delegating tasks appropriately.
• The RN uses strategies and available resources for problem-solving while considering factors related to safety and efficiency.
• The RN participates in shared governance to improve nursing practice and the work environment and commits to ongoing professional growth.
