Short Description

The Electrophysiologist is a hospital-and ambulatory physician whose responsibilities are focused on performing cardiac electrophysiology procedures within the Electrophysiology Laboratory and Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. The physician's duties include procedural evaluation, procedural performance, immediate peri-procedural management related to electrophysiology interventions, and performing outpatient clinic office visits for New and Established patients.

Education Requirements

MD or DO degree.

Completion of:

  • Internal Medicine Residency
  • Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship
  • Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship

Experience Required

Electrophysiology Procedures

Perform a full spectrum of invasive electrophysiology procedures, including:

  • Diagnostic electrophysiology studies
  • Catheter ablation procedures
    • Atrial fibrillation ablation
    • Atrial flutter ablation
    • SVT ablation
    • Ventricular tachycardia ablation
    • PVC ablation
  • Pacemaker implantation
  • Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation
  • Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) implantation
  • Insertable cardiac monitor/loop recorder implantation
  • Generator replacements and lead revisions
  • Lead extraction procedures (if credentialed)
  • Other electrophysiology-related structural heart procedures as credentialed

Peri-Procedural Responsibilities

  • Review procedural referrals and pre-procedure clinical information.
  • Determine procedural appropriateness and treatment strategy.
  • Obtain informed consent.
  • Provide intra-procedural clinical management.
  • Manage immediate post-procedural care and discharge readiness.
  • Complete procedure-related documentation and billing requirements.
  • Communicate procedural findings and recommendations to referring physicians.

Program Participation

  • Participate in EP laboratory quality initiatives.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of procedural protocols.
  • Support accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences as requested.
  • Collaborate with Cath lab leadership to optimize procedural efficiency and resource utilization.

License/ Certification Requirements

Board Certification or Board Eligibility in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.

Unrestricted medical license.

Special Requirements

Eligibility for medical staff membership and procedural privileges.
