ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

Summary You will serve as an ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) and reports to the Head, Manufacturing Engineering Support Branch of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will develop or coordinate development of programming for control of measuring systems to verify that propellers and propulsors satisfy ultra precise tolerance requirements. You will ensure that data acquisition density is adequate but not excessive for definition of actual part geometry and fairness. You will develop or coordinate development or programming for data reduction and reporting. You will perform detailed evaluations of new processes or innovative variations to existing processes for the purpose of improving operations. You will be familiar with the VA and CLB component hydrodynamic analysis packages including Propval and PIER Fit. You will be a senior tech and as such be considered a mentor and teach newer employees helping to make them more efficient and knowledgeable. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience coordinating in process as well as final robotic scans of products and evaluating the calibration results and system verifications to ensure the validity of scan operations using devices such as laser measurement C/1420.3 data collection devices including Leica and Faro laser trackers and scanners. Experience detailing cost estimates for use in obtaining project funding and scheduled estimates for completion of program files as well as generating certification books for all propulsor components. Experience utilizing various computer systems to develop detailed programs and engineering drawings such as CAM2 and PolyWorks software platforms. Experience interpreting engineering drawings and visualizing objects in three dimensions as well as deciphering sophisticated GD&T tolerance callouts, reading blueprints, and computer aided design (CAD) models. Experience implementing large volume measurement applications including setting up rotors and stators, performing in-process inspections as required, performing final dimension inspections as required, assembling complex component assemblies, and performing machine tool volumetric checks as required.
