About the Position LIVE is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Administrative/Legal Clerk to support the U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO), Northern District of Indiana, under a contract with the Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA). This is currently a contingent position pending award. The role directly supports the USAO Witness Management Program by providing clerical and administrative assistance to Victim-Witness personnel, Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs), legal assistants, and other USAO staff. Estimated work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work as required. Responsibilities Provide witness management assistance prior to, during, and after trial, including direct coordination with witnesses to ensure appearance at court, pre-trial conferences, and grand jury proceedings. Receive visitors and field phone calls, questions, and inquiries from witnesses regarding court appearances, grand jury dates, pre-trial conferences, and expense reimbursement. Initiate contact with and notify witnesses regarding travel arrangements, scheduled appearance dates and times, and any special circumstances or needs; exercise judgment to elevate to AUSAs as appropriate. Confer with AUSAs regarding witness appearance logistics and special circumstances, including international witnesses, military/federal employee witnesses, hostile witnesses, and special authorization requirements. Arrange witness travel and lodging in compliance with Department of Justice and USAO policies, Federal Travel Regulations, and prior COR/CO approval requirements. Meet witnesses upon arrival, provide courtroom orientation, accompany witnesses to court, ensure safe waiting areas, and collect required reimbursement documentation and signatures. Prepare, process, and submit witness vouchers and other reimbursement documentation; reconcile Government Travel Accounts and furnish status information on pending and completed vouchers. Obtain, confer, and coordinate with the Court, Probation, Pretrial Services, U.S. Marshals Service, investigative agencies, and other counterparts as needed. Draft original correspondence and complete recurring documents in conformance with legal style, format, and applicable witness laws and regulations. Maintain case files, databases, calendars, and tracking systems for hearings, trial dates, grand jury appearances, and scheduling conferences in accordance with DOJ retention requirements. Prepare and submit weekly activity reports to the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) detailing daily tasks and program-related activities. Perform general office administrative duties including file management, document assembly, data entry and retrieval, and other logistical support as assigned. Requirements High School Diploma required; undergraduate degree preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to perform word processing, data entry, and data retrieval with accuracy. Experience reviewing and analyzing data and information from multiple sources. Ability to establish and maintain case/project files, databases, and status tracking systems. Proficiency in preparing and formatting management reports and correspondence using word processing software. Ability to schedule appointments and manage calendars in a fast-paced legal or government environment. Familiarity with legal procedures and government administrative processes preferred. Good organizational skills and the ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure. U.S. Citizenship required; must meet DOJ Residency Requirements (3 of last 5 years of U.S. residency). Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation (HSPD-12). Must be able to sign a Nondisclosure Agreement on the first day of employment. Must complete DOJ Ethics training ("Pardon the Ethics Interruption") and OGE online contractor training within the first two weeks of employment. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience supporting a U.S. Attorney's Office, federal court, or other federal law enforcement agency. Familiarity with federal witness travel and reimbursement procedures. Experience with DOJ systems or the ability to quickly acquire proficiency in government software platforms. Knowledge of the Crime Victims' Rights Act (CVRA) or federal victim/witness program operations.
