Respiratory Therapist

Job Summary Location: Methodist Physicians Clinic - 1 Edmundson Place, Council Bluffs, IA Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8am - 4:30pm The Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for assessing respiratory patients with acute and chronic illnesses to ensure delivery of clinically appropriate respiratory care diagnostic procedures, including pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients. Responsibilities Perform routine and complex modalities of respiratory care independently. Document procedures in the patient record, including assessments, interventions, and progress in the medical information system; update care plans and goals. Develop, review, and revise care plans to achieve optimal patient outcomes; receive and interpret physician orders; evaluate patients in cooperation with an attending physician and recommend appropriate care based on AARC clinical practice guidelines. Communicate regularly with other patient‑care team members, including providers, nurses, and caregivers, regarding patient assessments and diagnostic test results; report unresolved issues to appropriate personnel. Maintain continuity of services to ensure timely patient‑care interventions; provide diagnostic procedures and ABG collection within scope of practice. Assist the department in achieving a patient satisfaction rate greater than 95% by being informative, helpful, and responsive to patient needs. Promote interdepartmental relations and educate nursing and ancillary staff regarding respiratory care procedures. Train, provide technical oversight, and evaluate other staff performing pulmonary function testing (PFT). Job Requirements Education Associate of Science Degree with a certificate in Respiratory Care (required). Bachelor of Science Degree with a certificate in Respiratory Care (preferred). Experience 3 to 6 months on‑the‑job experience to gain knowledge of policies, procedures, and routines. License/Certifications Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required within 12 months of accepting the position. Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP.NE or RCP.IA) license required. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire. Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities High degree of written and verbal communication skill to accurately relay recommendations to the patient‑care team.
