Overview Tolleson Union High School District #214 – Assistant Principal • Athletics and Operations. The administrator manages and administers school athletic programs, campus operations and facilities, student activities, supervision of certificated and classified employees, student discipline, attendance monitoring, and specific district programs as assigned. The Athletic Director assignment falls under the general supervision of the site principal with the goal of assisting in the organization and operation of the school’s athletic programs. Qualifications Required Valid Arizona teaching and principal certificate. Master\'s degree in Education, Administration, or other related field. Minimum of five (5) years teaching experience at the secondary level. Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience. Valid AZ Department of Public Safety (DPS) Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card. Possesses and maintains a First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Expertise in curriculum and instructional strategies and development; student assessment development and analysis; and instructional technology. Demonstrated background in instructional leadership and ability to work collaboratively. Demonstrated leadership and ability to work effectively with various groups, individuals, and a demonstrated ability to organize ideas and present with clarity and conciseness. Knowledge of the school district and its departments, policies, and procedures, preferred. Knowledge of dropout intervention best practices that lead to connection to the school community and student success. Ability to assume responsibility, exercise sound judgment, and handle confidential material and information. Preferred A minimum of three (3) years coaching experience. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Essential Functions Report directly to the campus Principal. Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school. Serve as a principal in the absence of the regular principal as assigned. Administers and maintains discipline throughout the student body. Assist in the implementation of the District-approved program of instruction; create a total school atmosphere conducive to optimum student progress; participate in the ongoing development and evaluation of the District\'s educational programs; assist in implementing effective guidance and health services for all students; interpret data for program improvement. Responsible for personnel management functions of the school: assist in selecting school personnel; interview prospective teachers for assigned curriculum area; supervise classroom instruction and evaluate teaching performance for assigned curriculum area; supervise classified staff; evaluate student achievement and placement; coordinate Summer School; serve on the textbook selection committee; develop effective lines of communication and staff input in educational planning; assist in budget preparation in assigned curriculum areas as directed by the principal. Participate in student study teams, 504 planning, and IEP process as needed. Monitor the academic achievement of students and make recommendations for interventions or alternative placements. Maintain general administrative records and prepare reports. Assist with school plant management functions to maintain a healthy environment and safe facilities. Assist with the management and implementation of computerized attendance, data management, scheduling, and grading systems. Participate in policy development as a member of the administrative team and interpret school and District programs, policies, and procedures to students, staff, parents, and community. Assist in safety inspections and safety drill practice activities/safety plan preparation. Develop and maintain productive community relations. Lead change and revitalization projects. Pursue professional growth activities for staff under supervision. Supervise campus, athletic events, and activities as assigned. Participate in coordination of Site testing. Assist with graduation activities and ceremonies. Participate in district departmental meetings to strengthen the department. Oversee Athletics, Student Council, and Clubs: oversee athletic, cocurricular and extracurricular programs; serve as the school representative at meetings; hire, supervise, and evaluate coaches, sponsors, and volunteers; manage athletic budget; oversee equipment ordering, repair, and supplies; coordinate athletic schedules and games; supervise events; coordinate transportation for athletic, cocurricular, and extracurricular events; monitor student eligibility including injuries and code of conduct; supervise Equipment Manager and Athletic Trainer; oversee summer/off-season programs; coordinate sports photos; liaison with Booster Clubs. Oversee campus operations and facilities: maintenance and repair of buildings/facilities; conduct safety inspections; serve as school representative on capital planning/construction projects; maintain Site Energy Plan; manage fixed asset and inventory; oversee facilities rental program; maintain master school calendar; ensure proper permits are obtained for using kitchens for cooking and snack bar use. Oversee/assist with bookstore operations, student and auxiliary accounts, the tax credit program, yearbook and fundraising events. Manage textbooks/instructional materials inventory and ordering. Announce and advertise school events. Attend student hearings and multidisciplinary (SPED) meetings as needed. Maintain the Student Procedures Handbook. Oversee early intervention/prevention programs. Assist in extracurricular supervision. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Skills are required to perform multiple tasks with potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing conditions. Specific skill-based competencies include: operating standard office equipment and software; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining records; handling confidential information; communicating effectively with diverse groups; oral and written communication; presenting materials professionally; managing personnel and programs; and collaborating with colleagues and the public. Knowledge includes basic math (fractions, percents, ratios), reading and composing technical documents, facilitating group discussions; and analyzing situations. Knowledge areas include: classroom management, collaboration, curriculum development, lesson planning, curriculum management software, curriculum mapping, education technology, instruction, leadership, pedagogy, training skills; knowledge of codes, policies, regulations; knowledge of athletics, coaching, training, and competition; knowledge of student government and clubs. Ability to schedule activities, gather data, use equipment; flexibility to direct others; work with diverse groups; problem solve; meet deadlines; demonstrate integrity and high standards; promote teamwork and service; work with interruptions; be respectful and empathetic.
