Location: Remote

Commitment: 10-15 hours per week | Minimum 6-month commitment

A Free Bird is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children diagnosed with cancer through artistic expression. Through programs in art, music, writing, and more, we provide children with a creative outlet that fosters healing, confidence, and self-expression.

Position Overview

The Department Director is responsible for overseeing the strategy, operations, and performance of a designated department within the organization (e.g., Marketing, Fundraising, HR, Programs, Operations).

This role requires strong leadership, organization, and strategic thinking to ensure departmental goals align with A Free Bird’s mission. The Director will manage team members, drive initiatives, and collaborate across departments to improve overall organizational performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a department, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and mission
• Oversee day-to-day operations and ensure projects and initiatives are executed effectively
• Supervise, mentor, and support team members, fostering a collaborative and productive environment
• Develop and implement strategies to improve departmental performance and efficiency
• Coordinate with other departments to ensure cross-functional collaboration
• Monitor progress on key initiatives and provide regular updates to leadership
• Assist in planning and executing organizational initiatives, campaigns, and events
• Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and tracking within the department
• Identify areas for growth, improvement, and innovation within the department

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in leadership, management, or a related field
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Experience working in collaborative, cross-functional environments
• Strategic thinker with the ability to execute and drive results
• Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
• Experience in nonprofit, business operations, marketing, or related fields is a plus

• Minimum six-month commitment required
• 10-15 hours per week (based on role level)
• Fully remote position
• Must have access to a computer and reliable internet
• Availability for periodic phone or video meetings required
