Flight Paramedic

Job Summary Under the direction and supervision of the Base Medical Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing safe, comprehensive care to critically ill and/or injured patients of all ages in the pre-hospital setting and during inter-facility transports. Responsibilities Perform specialized functions and complex assessments, diagnoses, therapies and emergency treatment of patients transported by rotor-wing and/or fixed-wing and/or ground. Document/Chart appropriate and accurate information for assessment and treatment during stabilization and transport. Document/Chart accurate and complete billing information of patient transports. Maintain and facilitate effective and timely communication between management, internal and external customers. Participate in activities to support public relations and marketing efforts. Maintain knowledge base for flight nursing role. Attend mandatory meetings, chart reviews, equipment reviews, skill labs, clinical rotations, and continuing education sessions related to the care and transport of critically ill and/or injured patients. Complete all annual recurrent competency requirements. Function clinically under the direction of the program’s Medical Director through medical protocols and procedures and online medical guidance. Report directly to the program’s Manager of Clinical Services and indirectly to the National Director of Clinical Standards for clinical matters. Perform within the regulations and scope of practice of the local Department of Health Services. Preceptor as Base Educator, CQI Representative, Government Relations Representative, Membership Representative, Social Media Representative, and other duties as assigned. Qualifications Active Paramedic Certification in the relevant state(s). Minimum of three years (five years preferred) current field experience in a busy 911/pre-hospital service. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS/PEPP and PHTLS/ITLS; NRP preferred. Instructor certifications preferred. Maintain all certifications required by policy, including FP-C within twenty-four months of hire. Flight or transport experience preferred. Successfully complete the PHI Health Group education/orientation program. Effective human relations skills required for interfacing with all levels of personnel and external customers. Meet and maintain clinical personnel weight restriction limit for flight per policy. Basic computer skills for e‑mail and electronic charting. Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare related field preferred. Ability to communicate verbally, effectively and clearly in person, by radio and by phone. Maintain a body weight below 215 pounds and pass pre-placement physical exam including functional capacity exam (strength and flexibility assessment, lift up to 100 pounds) and drug screening. Candidate lives within a one-hour drive or sixty (60) miles from the base if possible.
