Senior Staff Software Engineer

New York City (Hybrid) $180,000 – $250,000 Base + Equity Our client is an early-stage, venture-backed AI healthcare startup transforming operational workflows across hospitals. They've built an intelligent platform that combines modern software engineering with AI to streamline complex, mission‑critical processes, helping healthcare teams work more efficiently and improve patient outcomes. With strong early customer traction, significant investor backing, and a small, high‑calibre engineering team, they're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to play a key role in shaping both the product and engineering culture. What you'll be doing Build and ship end‑to‑end product features across the full stack, with a strong focus on backend engineering. Design scalable, reliable systems used in high‑trust, real‑world environments. Develop AI‑powered workflows and user experiences using modern LLM tooling where appropriate. Partner closely with Product and Design to solve complex customer problems. Own technical decisions from architecture through deployment and ongoing iteration. Help shape engineering best practices and contribute to a high‑performing, collaborative culture. What we're looking for 5‑8+ years of software engineering experience. Strong backend engineering experience with modern web applications. Excellent experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React and SQL/Postgres . Experience building scalable cloud‑native applications (AWS preferred). Comfortable working across infrastructure, APIs and frontend when needed. Familiar with AI‑assisted development tools such as Cursor, ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot, with an interest in building AI‑enabled products. Product‑minded engineer who enjoys ownership, ambiguity and building from 0→1. Strong communicator who enjoys collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams.
