Compensation and Opportunity The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary will be determined by factors including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. Employees are eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards as part of our compensation and benefits program. Salary Range: $85,600.00 - $141,200.00 Target Openings: 4 This role is eligible for a sign on bonus. What Is the Opportunity? Under general supervision, the position is responsible for investigating, evaluating, reserving, negotiating and resolving assigned Specialty Liability related Bodily Injury and Property Damage claims. Provides quality claim handling throughout the claim life cycle (customer contacts, coverage, investigation, evaluation, reserving, litigation management, negotiation and resolution) including maintaining full compliance with internal and external quality standards and state specific regulations. Provides consulting and training resources, and serves as a contact and technical resource to the field and our business partners. What Will You Do? Directly handle assigned claims. Provide quality customer service and ensure file quality and timely coverage analysis and communication with insured based on policy information and facts. Consult with Manager on use of Claim Coverage Counsel as needed. Directly investigate each claim through prompt and strategically-appropriate contact with policyholders, accounts, claimants, law enforcement, witnesses, agents, medical providers and technical experts to determine liability, damages, and contribution potential. Interview witnesses and stakeholders; take necessary statements, as strategically appropriate. Engage internal and external resources for evaluation of claims (e.g., Subrogation, Risk Control, nurse consultants, investigators, and other experts). Verify the nature and extent of injury or property damage by obtaining and reviewing records and damages documentation. Maintain claim files and document activities in accordance with procedures; utilize evaluation tools and diary management to ensure timely handling. Establish and maintain proper indemnity and expense reserves; recommend cases for discussion at roundtables; participate in roundtables to improve payout on indemnity and expense. Share knowledge of creative resolution techniques and develop and employ resolution strategies. Dispositions of all claims within delegated authority; negotiate with insureds, claimants or their legal representatives; explore alternate means of resolution. Manage litigated claims, develop litigation plans with staff or panel counsel, including discovery and legal expenses, to ensure effective resolution and customer satisfaction. Apply litigation management through selection of counsel, evaluation and direction of strategy; track and control legal expenses; manage loss adjustment expenses. Attend depositions, mediations, arbitrations, pre-trials, trials and other legal proceedings as needed; provide updates to relevant parties as new facts arise. Transfer cases to higher levels as appropriate based on severity/complexity; handle personal and confidential information appropriately. Fulfills service commitments to accounts; adhere to SAC instructions and inquiries from agents and brokers. Represent the company as a technical resource; attend legal proceedings as needed and mentor less experienced claim professionals. Collaborate with business partners to achieve quality results. Evaluate all claims for recovery potential and direct recovery efforts as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Potential travel up to 30%. Minimum Qualifications and Ideal Candidate What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have? Bachelor's Degree. 5 years business experience. Advanced knowledge and skill in claims and litigation; basic working knowledge of various business line products. Strong negotiation and customer service skills; skilled in coverage, liability and damages analysis with understanding of the litigation process and management. Extensive claim and/or legal experience with complex claims; ability to make independent decisions on most cases. Openness to input, strong coaching and communication skills; ability to convey complex data clearly. Understanding of commercial lines products, policy language, exclusions, ISO forms, and effective claims handling practices. Various proficiency indicators: Analytical Thinking (Intermediate), Judgment/Decision Making (Intermediate), Communication (Intermediate), Negotiation (Intermediate), Knowledge in Insurance Contract, Investigation, Value Determination, Settlement Techniques, Legal and Medical knowledge (all Intermediate). Must Have: High School Diploma or GED; 2 years of liability claim handling and/or litigation claim experience. Insurance license(s) may be required within three months of starting the job.
