OUR MISSION
Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state, and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
The Levee Foreman A supervises a crew of Mobile Equipment Operators 1 and 2, as well as Mobile Equipment Operator Lights to maintain the levees and flood control structures under the jurisdiction of the SLFPA-E. This responsibility also includes maintenance of adjacent parkways (e.g., along Lakeshore Drive) and parks within subdivisions under the SLFPA-E jurisdiction. Two years of experience as a mechanic, or in the alteration, construction, maintenance or repair of bridges, buildings, drainage facilities, grounds, levees, roads, or wharfs.JOB DUTIES
Supervises subordinate personnel and directs all activities in maintaining, repairing, or modifying levees, and ensures grass cutting and cleaning meet levee district standards. Assists Levee Foreman B in scheduling daily work assignments to subordinate job areas, checking equipment daily, reporting all problems, and evaluating work performance of subordinates. Provides guidance for the annual CPM activities of subordinates and supervises preparation of equipment reports and records. Required to keep up with all daily reports. Directly works with certain crews in the field to complete designated construction assignments and related duties. Incumbent coordinates with other agency departments for heavy equipment needs for levee repairs or floodgate closures.QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of experience as a mechanic or in the alteration, construction, maintenance, or repair of bridges, buildings, drainage facilities, grounds, levees, roads, or wharfs.POSITION-SPECIFIC DETAILS
