Mental Health Clinician (0.8 FTE) Position Summary: The Mental Health Clinician is a member of the Student Support Services Team, providing comprehensive socioemotional and mental health support to K‑8 students across all three tiers of need. Tier 1 Socioemotional Supports Lead and support Compass Circle and Badgework Lead psychoeducational programming on mental health issues (e.g., bullying, suicide prevention, mental health awareness month) Support the development and implementation of socioemotional practices in the classroom Implement socioemotional screening for students twice a year Provide teacher and parent workshops on socioemotional or mental health issues Serve as a member of the COST Team Tier 2 Socioemotional Supports Provide individual counseling for students referred via COST or a 504 Plan Conduct group counseling Act as Check‑In/Check‑Out Coordinator Lead friendship (social skills/social thinking) groups Consult with teachers and parents for individual student supports Conduct suicide risk assessments Case-manage with county mental health systems Tier 3 Socioemotional Supports Provide individual counseling for students referred through the IEP process Provide group counseling for students referred through the IEP process Case-manage with county mental health systems Additional Responsibilities Facilitate the optimal functioning and well‑being of students through individual and group counseling Conduct psychological assessment procedures and make referrals when indicated Maintain documentation of client contacts, consultations, and referrals in accordance with professional guidelines Provide crisis intervention services during office hours and after hours as needed Lead educational workshops and proactive outreach programming Obtain and interpret psychological tests, promoting self‑understanding among students Serve as a consultant to facilitate understanding of psychological issues within the school community Evaluate and enhance the quality of school‑based mental health services in collaboration with the Director of Student Support Services Co‑define and monitor administrative policies and procedures for the mental health service line Attend staff meetings and provide input on mental health service operations Acquire additional knowledge and skills in tele‑mental health and counseling ethnic minorities and historically underrepresented individuals Engage in professional development, including presentations, publications, memberships, and CEU acquisition as required by state licensing boards Contribute to a work environment that encourages cultural competency and respectful engagement with diverse students, staff, and families Complete any other tasks assigned by the Director of Student Support Services Qualifications Education: Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or another mental health discipline (required) Licensure or Certification: Professionally licensed in the mental health field in California, or actively pursuing licensure, or California teacher certification as a School Counselor or School Social Worker Experience: At least one year of clinical experience as a mental health clinician or supervised clinical experience (required) Experience working in a school setting with a K‑12 population (preferred) Familiarity with Solution‑Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness (desired) Skills: Ability to develop cultural knowledge, respect, and skills to engage with diverse cultures (required) Demonstrated cultural competency and consciousness (required) Superb interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to collaborate with diverse students, colleagues, and families Flexibility and adaptability to change; ability to work in a dynamic, creative, and start‑up learning environment; ability to conduct tele‑assessment and tele‑therapy services Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and solutions‑oriented attitude Supervision The Mental Health Clinician is supervised by the Director of Student Support Services and, if required for licensure, an additional licensed clinical supervisor. Time Commitment Position is 0.8 FTE. 180‑day school year. 8 student‑free professional development days for collaboration with colleagues. School hours are 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. on Monday, and 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Tuesday–Friday. Compensation $72,000 – $90,000 depending on years of experience and license status, prorated to 0.8 FTE.
