Director, Bacterial Vaccine Discovery

AstraZeneca seeks a Director of Bacterial Vaccine Discovery to lead a team of scientists in discovering and developing novel bacterial vaccines using multiple platforms. The role involves managing early-stage research programs, collaborating across functions, and advancing vaccine candidates through preclinical characterization and regulatory engagement.

Responsibilities

Lead team of scientists to discover and characterize vaccine antigens with robust preclinical packages
Serve as subject matter expert for multiple programs, presenting strategy and data at governance meetings
Oversee external partnerships with academic institutions and contract research organizations
Collaborate with translational sciences to develop assays for characterizing immune responses
Evaluate external opportunities and manage intellectual property strategy for early-stage programs

Requirements

PhD in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field
8+ years of industry experience in vaccine or pharmaceutical research
Proven leadership of junior scientists at PhD and non-PhD levels
Strong track record in bacterial vaccine research and pathogenesis
Experience characterizing immune responses in small animal disease models
Familiarity with functional immunological assays including opsonophagocytic killing assays
Cross-functional collaboration experience in biotech or pharmaceutical settings

Compensation: $172,466.40 - $258,699.60 annual base pay
