Dental AssistantSOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in Washington, DC, helping them break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them.Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare, and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly range for this position is $25.89 to $27.38 and is commensurate with experience.The Dental Assistant assists dentists with procedures and daily duties. The Dental Assistant also provides dental care and education to patients.Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (40 hours per week)Required: HS/GED; 1-2 yrs experience in a Dental clinicPreferred: Associate's Degree; 2-5 yrs experience in a Dental clinicRequired License/Certification: CPR/First Aid; Dental Assistant Certification from the District of Columbia Department of HealthExpected Contributions - Dental Care/AdministrativePrep work area for dental proceduresAssist the dentist with all proceduresMaintain dental equipment and instrumentsMaintain a sterile and non-contaminated work environmentStock supplies, materials, medications, and equipment, as neededEnsure proper functioning of all equipmentProvide dental education to patients and demonstrate proper dental careDocument patient dental issuesSchedule patient follow-up appointmentsAssist with administrative duties, as neededKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:Knowledge of dental care and terminologyPatient care skillsTime management skillsKnowledge of EHR dental-specific software programsCustomer service skills with patientsGood listening skills to identify patient needsOrganized with an attention to detailAbility to communicate with diverse audiencesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsProblem-solving and critical thinking skillsConflict resolution skillsAbility to be effective in a team environmentAbility to multitask, despite competing prioritiesReports To: Director of DentistryPosition Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. This clinic and office may or may not include individual heating and air conditioning controls. This space may or may not include a window. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
