Job Location MillsRiver,NC Department MountainHorticulturalCropsResearch About the Department MountainHorticulturalCropsResearchandExtensionCenter supports agricultural research on horticultural and other crops relevant to western NC and the state of North Carolina. The Center provides resources such as land, equipment, facilities, expertise, and personnel to research scientists conducting field research on agricultural commodities. The 397-acre Center houses twelve administrative and operational staff, as well as research faculty from six academic departments and Administrative offices for two Cooperative Extension district offices. The Center is also a hub in western NC for Extension education programs. Key Responsibilities Conduct field work activities in support of ongoing agricultural research projects. Operate tractors and other farm equipment safely and efficiently. Apply pesticides according to established protocols and safety guidelines. Provide cultural care for various crops including apples, tomatoes, ornamentals, corn, and soybeans. Assist in the coordination and execution of research experiments and trials. Maintain accurate records of field activities, observations, and data collection. Collaborate with research scientists and other team members to achieve project objectives. May be responsible for directing the work of temporary employees, providing guidance and support as needed. Other Responsibilities In addition to the core responsibilities of this role, there may be occasional opportunities to take on additional duties. Qualifications Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Preferred Qualifications Background in agricultural work and/or applied research. Knowledge of agricultural crop production practices. Proficiency in operating agricultural machinery and equipment. Attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices. Required License or Certification A valid driver’s license is required for travel. NC driver’s license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained. NC Pesticide Applicator’s License or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of start. Valid NC Driver's License required Yes Commercial Driver's License Required?
