Senior Engineer, Cascaded Control Technology Development

Ampace (???) is a global battery-technology company specializing in lithium-ion cells and systems for energy storage, data centers, and critical power. Our R&D pairs advanced cell chemistry with semi-solid-state technology to deliver safe, high-performance batteries at scale. This position is based at our R&D center in Xiamen, China.

The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role.

Responsibilities:

1. Research cascaded power-conversion technologies: Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) and Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) topology innovation and performance optimization; submodule capacitor-voltage balancing, circulating-current suppression, and voltage equalization; efficient use of wide-bandgap devices (SiC/GaN); and device-to-system multiphysics models.

1. Develop and optimize advanced control algorithms — digital, nonlinear, adaptive, and model-predictive control — for power-electronic conversion, including MMC-versus-CHB trade-offs in storage and battery applications.

1. Support product landing: electrical architecture, device selection, and system commissioning, working with the BMS, cell, structure, and thermal teams.

Requirements:

1. PhD in Power Electronics & Drives, Control Theory & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Automation.

1. Open to both early-career researchers and candidates with several years of post-PhD experience; relevant research, internship, or product experience in power electronics is a plus.

1. Solid converter topology, modeling, and control; AC-DC/DC-DC/DC-AC and multilevel (MMC/CHB); modern and model-predictive control; MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSCAD; power-device (IGBT/MOSFET/SiC/GaN), magnetics, and gate-drive knowledge; C/C++/Python.
