Insurance Liability Supervisor

Overview Supervisory level claims handling staff manages, investigates, and resolves operation liability claims asserted against the Agency. Supervises the TPA claims adjusting staff of Claims Representatives. Must have management experience in handling tort, property/casualty, general liability, and subrogation claims. Responsibilities Responsible for completing monthly claims suits on the current open caseload assigned to the individual adjusters; Supervisor audits are to be conducted on at least three (3) individual claims files (open or closed) for each individual adjuster monthly; The result of the audit will be provided to the MTA TIG Management for review; Each individual Adjuster assigned to the supervisor’s units are required to manage an open pending of approximately 150-175 claims files; Confirm investigation is being completed in a timely manner and documented, Daily Diary is completed, reserves are accurate, subrogation recovery has been obtained, and authority is properly obtained; Review the recommendation and evaluation of claims adjusters for denial or settlement and determine if denials are appropriate based on a review of the physical claim files; Approves or denies all check requests in accordance with the TIG Claims Manual; Review and monitor claims files to confirm that if additional authority is warranted above the claims Adjusters and/or supervisor written authorization, it is requested timely and in accordance with the TIG Claims Manual; Handle complaint calls when claimants are not satisfied with the services of TPA staff; Conducts performance evaluations and tracks leave, lateness, and vacation of claims personnel; Documents first reports and handles the caseload of claims personnel assigned to their unit in their absence; Meets with the claims personnel to discuss courses of actions and answer any questions the claims personnel may have and provide written instruction to claims personnel on how claims investigation should be performed; Ensure that Defense Counsel has the necessary investigation information for the defense of cases and ensure Defense Counsel has authority if MTA TIG Management determines negotiations should be handled by counsel or TPA staff; It is the responsibility of the TPA Claims Supervisor to ensure that the Claims Adjuster assigned to a TIG claim file, obtains the necessary authority and informs Defense Counsel of any authority level as to negotiate any possible settlement, if it has been determined that the claim will be settled by counsel; Obtains the legal advice of Defense Counsel pertaining to the claims file; Communicates and corresponds with claimant, witnesses, operators, insurance companies, and other individuals as necessary to gather information or evidence to determine damages of liability of claims; Negotiate and authorize the settlement of claims with the claimants or their representatives, attends and testifies at litigation hearings, depositions and trials, takes recorded statements from claimants, witnesses and develop an accurate account of the incident; The new losses assigned are forwarded to the Claims Supervisor to complete the initial claim file form and then forward to Claims Assistants for processing; Confirmation of the number of new losses assigned is sent via email; In the absence of the MTA TIG Management and only at the direction of the MTA TIG Management, the Claims Supervisor or designee will be required to assign the daily claims files, complete the initial claim file form, and forward to Claims Assistants for processing; A copy of the cover letter will be forwarded to the MTA TIG Management for their records and to confirm completion of the task; The Claims Supervisor may be required to manage a minimal personal caseload of operations liability claims against MTA. The claim files will consist of the more serious exposure bodily injury, property damage including fatality, and wrongful death claims; Ensure that the TPA staff are adhering to all policies in the MTA Claims Manual and TIG policies and procedures during monthly review/audits of the claim files; and This position is also responsible for any other duty or task that would be required in order to meet the performance requirement of the job. Education and Experience Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of experience. Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and eight (8) years of experience in investigating, settling and handling automobile property damage, bodily injury and general liability claims. Applicants may substitute the designation as a CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) or an AIC (Associate in Claims) from the Insurance Institute of America or designation as a CLA (Claims Law Associate) from the American Educational Institute for one-year of required experience. Knowledge of Maryland statutory and case law with respect to tort, property/casualty, general liability, and subrogation claims. #J-18808-Ljbffr
