Managing Attorney Immigration Litigation About the Role: We are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Managing Attorney to join our growing Immigration Litigation team. As a Managing Attorney, you will oversee a team of attorneys and paralegals, manage a complex caseload of immigration matters, and help shape the strategic direction of the program. You will provide high-quality legal representation to unaccompanied immigrant children while ensuring exceptional client service, legal excellence, and compliance with funding and programmatic requirements. This position is ideal for an experienced immigration attorney who enjoys litigation, mentoring legal professionals, developing legal strategies, and contributing to the long-term growth and success of a collaborative legal services organization. Key Responsibilities: Manage a caseload involving removal proceedings before Immigration Courts, USCIS, and state courts. Represent clients in matters involving Asylum, Withholding of Removal, Convention Against Torture protection, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), U‑Visas, T‑Visas, and related forms of immigration relief. Develop legal strategies and oversee complex immigration litigation matters from intake through final resolution. Supervise, mentor, and train attorneys and paralegals on legal strategy, case preparation, litigation practices, and caseload management. Provide guidance and support to pro bono attorneys handling immigration matters. Conduct legal analysis and assess eligibility for immigration relief and case placement. Monitor developments in immigration law and provide training and guidance to staff regarding legal updates and best practices. Collaborate with leadership to establish program goals and ensure compliance with grants, contracts, and organizational requirements. Support legal orientation programs, intake services, and outreach efforts for detained and released immigrant children. Oversee the timely and accurate management of case files, databases, reporting requirements, and legal documentation. Participate in stakeholder engagement activities with community organizations, government agencies, detention facilities, and legal service providers. Foster collaboration across departments to ensure coordinated and effective client representation. Contribute to organizational initiatives, leadership committees, and long‑term strategic planning efforts. Maintain high standards of client service, legal advocacy, and professional responsibility. Qualifications: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. Minimum five (5) years of immigration law experience. Active admission to practice law in Maryland or Virginia, eligibility to waive into either jurisdiction, or willingness to sit for the next available bar examination. Management, supervision, or team leadership experience. Written and verbal fluency in Spanish. Strong knowledge of removal defense and humanitarian immigration relief. Experience representing clients before Immigration Courts, USCIS, and related administrative agencies. Exceptional legal writing, research, advocacy, and litigation skills. Strong organizational and case management abilities. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Demonstrated commitment to client advocacy, equity, inclusion, and cultural competency. Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, social service providers, and community stakeholders. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as required. Ability to work in a hybrid work environment and attend in‑person meetings, hearings, and client appointments as needed. Ability to successfully complete all required background checks.
