Accountant Position at La School Employees' Retirement System

Louisiana School Employees' Retirement System (LSERS) is the third-largest retirement system in Louisiana, made up of non-instructional personnel of the Louisiana public school system. We currently have an opening for an Accountant to join our Accounting Team. The Accountant position works closely with the Accounting Manager and as part of the Accounting Team. Their primary role is to provide entry-level professional financial support by assisting with employer account management of employing agencies, payroll and tax administration, financial reporting and audit compliance, and investment and financial reconciliations.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

• Financial & Investment Reconciliation: Perform comprehensive bank reconciliations for primary agency accounts and manage complex cash flows, electronic bank files, ACH transactions, and stop payments.
• Employer Account Management: Oversee the accounting, billing, and balancing of statements for 98 employing agencies, resolve complex payment discrepancies, issue exception notices, and maintain accurate member employment records.
• Payroll & Tax Administration: Administer internal staff payroll via Abila software and manage multi-million-dollar monthly retirement tax accounts for retirement, DROP, and refund payrolls.
• Financial Reporting & Audit Compliance: Assist in coordinating data across actuaries and investment teams to assist in preparing annual financial statements

Hours and Location: This position will work Monday - Friday from 8 am - 4:30 pm at the La School Employees Retirement System in Baton Rouge.
