Trident Seafoods is North America's largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company. Summary:
Assists with the activities of the Engineering Department regarding the mechanical operations, repair and maintenance functions for the vessel by performing required duties.
Essential Functions:
- Monitors the vessel's engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration and sanitary systems with little direction in accordance with Trident policy as well as local, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Stands watch while underway and at anchor.
- Makes entries into logbooks.
- Assists in maintenance all vessel systems.
- Follows specific directions in the case of an emergency to include launching a raft, donning an immersion suit or life preserver, assisting in a response to fire or flooding.
- Able to advise on new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, and/or inter-departmental relations.
- Participates in required training to maintain qualifications and license compliance.
- Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.

Minimum Requirements
- 2 years of experience as Wiper, Oiler or Assistant on a fishing vessel
- Appropriate licenses/permits of trade (e.g., Coast Guard license of appropriate horsepower, STCW, etc.) as required.
- QMED endorsement
- EPA 608 Certification
- Intermediate firefighting.
- Current First Aid and CPR cards.
Preferred Education & Experiences:
- One or more years of related experience and training in Seafood or related industries.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
- Familiarity with production needs and willingness to work with vessel manager and Chief Engineer to support production.
- Basic all-around engineering knowledge. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of email, spreadsheet software and word processing software.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Work Ability Requirements:
Must be capable of boarding and departing (exiting) a vessel without assistance by moving up or climbing a gangplank, the stern ramp of a vessel and/or a vertical ladder. Must be capable of boarding/departing the vessel by being lifted in a crane or manlift. May also enter and exit a skiff from a dock, plane, or a boat unassisted. Must meet at designated locations to receive instructions and place on a life jacket and an immersion suit without assistance in one minute or less. Must also move quickly without assistance to any designated lifeboat station.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and peripheral vision.
