Construction Inspector

The Dougherty County School System is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Facilities department. The Construction Inspector will ensure contractor compliance with project plans and specifications for each newly constructed and/or renovated facility in the Dougherty County School System.

Qualifications: Technical College Diploma or equivalent preferred; Five (5) years of experience in general construction work is required; Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of the construction trade is required; Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the construction industry is required; A valid Georgia Driver's License and a good driving record; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication and organizational skills; Ability to read and comprehend architectural designs, drawings, and details; Ability to safely operate and work from ladders, scaffoldings, platforms, and personal lifts; Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs.; Ability to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities; Ability to respond to emergencies and needs of contractors and design personnel.

Performance Responsibilities: Supervises new construction and/or renovation, modification, and additions projects to ensure compliance with contract documents and owner's standards; Serves as field liaison/contract for the Department with Architects and contractors; Maintains plans, specifications, and submittal documents on each project through completion; Develops and maintains filing and record-keeping systems for Field Reports, RFI, COP, ASI, etc.; Maintains project close-out and warranty documentation; Plans the workday to ensure that all projects are sufficiently observed for contract compliance; Keeps accurate records and reports of changes during the work and ensures they are noted in the As-Built Documents; Performs other such duties needed or assigned by the supervisor.
