Package Engineering Associate Director

Job DescriptionGeneral Summary:The Package Engineering Associate Director has an established track record of both technical and project leadership, exerting broad influence both within and outside the Technical Operations organization. This role is accountable for effectively managing overall relationships with key partners and ensuring the success of manufacturing operations. Key Duties and Responsibilities:Provides leadership in one or more technical areasResponsible for overall relationship with key suppliers of materials, technology and manufacturing resourcesCoordinates activities and leverages best practices across multiple projects and suppliersManages and designs key packaging activities including packaging design and specification, equipment and tooling design and qualification, labeling, material selection, testing, and sourcingCollaborates with multiple stakeholders including Pharmaceutical Sciences, Regulatory Affairs, Project Management, Supply Chain, Quality, and Marketing to meet project timelines and objectivesLiaises with Regulatory Affairs and Quality to provide packaging documentation supporting process validation, product release and regulatory filingsEvaluates process performance to lead continuous improvement activities and apply best practices for commercial productsAssists in the creation of department goalsKnowledge and Skills:Experience in one or multiple packaging disciplines including materials and closure systems, design of secondary and tertiary components, component compatibility, component qualification, equipment installation and qualification.Experience supporting packaging for pharmaceutical products from research through registration and launchAdvanced knowledge of cGMP’s and associated CMC regulatory considerations in a pharmaceutical environmentEmerging knowledge across multiple technical areasStrong communication, collaboration and team building skills; ability to connect with all levels of the organizationProven ability to manage multiple high-priority projects with high degree of effectivenessAbility to navigate a fast-paced, strong-matrix work environmentAbility to travel domestic and international (approximately 30%)Education and Experience:Bachelor's Degree in Packaging, Chemical, Mechanical, Material Engineering, or a relevant disciplineTypically requires 8 years of experience, or the equivalent combination of advanced education and experienceAt Vertex, we embrace continuous learning and encourage employees to stay informed on advances in AI, technology, automation, and industry trends. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements.
